Default Tire size consensus #2: turns out the BBS wheels are 16x9 in the back

So 16x8 in the fornt and 16x9 in the back. I've got a set of 205s to go on the front (might look a little stretched though) and no clue what to put on the rear. Any ideas?

8 & 9's?

I'd run 235/40 (or 245/40) up front and 255/40 Rear for tires. Yes, 205's are too narrow for the front.

When i bought the wheels originally it came with the 205s mounted and that didn't look that bad. This is going on an NA too, so I don't need super wide tires on either side.

Look up the tire specs on the tires you are interested in. Don't go ghetto with narrower tires.

Minimum sizing - go stock OE. I am not sure what that is on a N/A.

Stock sizing for an N/A is 215 all arround, for 8s and 9s I would go at least 225 up front with 245 at least on the 9 inch rim (My rears on my 951 are 245 on 9 inch rims, don't look stretched at all) but you can go much wider on a 9 inch rim...

I keep seeing this posted, and the manuals indicate it as well. I just don't understand it. Why would they put 2 different width wheels on at the factory and use the same size rubber?

less understeer than if they put smaller tires in front?

Obviously that's the effect, but how it is different than putting the same size wheels with the same sized tires on them? Why stagger wheel widths only to negate that by putting the same rubber on each one?

maybe to allow the owners to toy around with tire sizes in the future for more grip. im sure there might have been some consideration paid to having smaller tires for better MPG even if it would be a negligible difference.

i have 225s on my 7" fronts and 8" rears, i wouldnt go any smaller than that

If it is any real difference in MPG, that very well could be the difference considering the timing of these cars relative the energy crises.

Good luck finding 255/40 for 16's. More than likely you will only find 245's.

I run 8's and 9's on my car for street wheels. Fronts I use 225's and rear 245's.

Narrower wheels and tires cost less and weigh less. The 911 used 6" fronts for many years. Lighter steering, less unsprung weight, better road feel maybe?
