Sorry to hear that
Whisper,
sorry to hear about the fire, here's to hoping for the best!
On a side note, Marcquito, I have watched that little video attached to your post for about the last 15 minutes straight. I'm mesmerized.

Claims adjuster was out today. He was appalled at the extent of the damage. Said if they didn't declare it totalled, then the entire front end would most likely have to be replaced.
I'll have to see if I can get copies of his photos.

WHAT?!?!?! Entire front end?? Are you sure you didn't get carried away with the torch trying to fit in a 928 V8?
I would defiantly think the wiring and rubber pieces are gone.... but the steel's alright... right? Wiring harness (For the LS3) and a few odds and ends, and its good to go, right???

Keep it for parts (maybe). These cars are too cheap right now to worry with saving a total. I'd buy another maybe better candidate to start with for a lsx swap.

Everything back of the firewall is fine, so maybe some of that will get sold... momo wheel, excellent condition script seats, dash with no cracks, tranny, 16" phonedials are flawless, etc. Front side, I dunno. Maybe the short block can be saved, maybe the pistons. Crank's crossdrilled and polished, intake manifold might be okay, but I'd be wary of any of it, myself.
I also have a set of SRP satin finish racing pedals that I never got around to installing, and a shiny new Lindsey billet aluminium fuel rail with line kit...
...which arrived by UPS the day after the fire.

I honestly am sorry for your loss.
I've talked a little trash about the situation, and maybe I shouldn't have. I guess I didn't realize it was that bad. I would probably cry real tears if it was my car....
There's a few turbo's for sale right now...

At this point, I've given up on 944s/951s as DDs. They don't seem to be cars that you drive, so much as cars that you fix. I'm shopping for a 350Z right now, for a DD, and then, in about a year, I'll have to choose between buying a Cayman, and getting a 951 to turn into a 948.

I wasn't offended, I just gathered that you, as well as some others, had underestimated the extent of the damage.

Like someone already said, these cars are too cheap to try and fix this one. Everybody loves the heartwarming martha stewart stories where they turn a loss into a driveable car.
Use this as a chance to get into a 951 or a 350z like you said. If not, and you try to rebuild it and save it youll be in for a treat. With my fire car, even though the damage was light, there was metal fatigue on the hood and probably even the chassis.
Get your insurance check, buy it back, part it out, move on. Unless you want to be tied to a railroad.

Rebuilding is off the table.
The only thing I am still considering is whether I want to start the 948 project with another car, or save up for a Cayman.
