i think half the battle in a turbo swap is the suspension and gearbox and if hes got that in then a decent longblock and exhaust and wiring etc shouldnt be all that difficult

Who said anything about accelerating? Never slow down and get on the gas sooner and put down all the limited power you have before the next guy. That is how you make a 944 NA fast.

I agree except for these two.

Cone filter = -1 to -5 HP because you've now removed the very good cold air intake that Porsche designed and are picking up hot air from under the hood.
Header Wrap = 0 HP, plus rusted headers later on.

why not just slap in some 88'-89' high compression pistons, thats a good 10 horsepower

The problem with the 944 2.5, is you're trying to get power out of a 2 valve motor. I think the best idea, would be to go with a DOHC setup and raise compression. The only way to get more power out of the car is to increase the amount of air it can consume and explode.

Either that or go with a cam and bigger valves, with custom intake that has shorter runners, and do lots of head-work. And of course, bump compression.

By the tone of the OP it is a street car.

There are no easy HP gains and even expensive gains (compression, head cam) aren't worth it for a street car.

IMO the only way to get some decent HP is to go with some sort of forced induction

True - I don't think it would be terribly difficult to do, but that would require welding equipment and fabrication facilities (eg a shop and lift), which I unfortunately don't have. If someone does have those things and the inclination though, I imagine that a turbo exhaust manifold might sell quite well (see search results for "can I turbo my N/A"), especially if paired with a relatively straightforward, reasonably priced (eg $2-4k) low-boost kit

A lot of the rest of the Callaway kit is quite frankly overkill - the 5th injector system is cool and the lower compression pistons help high boost, so I would imagine that a replica system could cut those out to cut price down. If boost were limited to ~5lbs, hp probably wouldn't clear 200 crank hp, but you could probably get rid of the intercooler, which cuts down on cost as well
