Exclamation Nasty nose panel picture. :(

I was taking off my nose panel because it's getting repainted along with the headlight covers, and the side fenders. Well I ran into this litte problem. It is the same problem that happened to Cole. (https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=54641) I guess some time in my cars life it got it in the front, and this is how the PO repaired it. I took the bolt out that was "supposedly" holding the nose panel to the fender, so I pulled and pulled, until I relized they welded it together.

So im going to get this repaired obviously, but how much do you guys think it is going to cost to just repaint my nose panel and to fix the problem you see in the picture?

$300+ easy...you really had to euchre it to get it off. Looks like the edge where the panel meets the fender, correct?

Yea I did. It is the edge where the panel meets the fender. How hard are fenders to get off?

Lots of bolts. Not too terrible.

^ ^ ^ IIRC, there are 3(?) bolts that are covered by the undercoating that may take some digging around. someone posted a pic of their location a while back

Ok well I'm going to show my body shop guy. What do you think he is going to suggest? To get a whole new fender, or to repair that edge on the fender and the nose panel with bondo? Is bondo a terrible thing? Also, where would I get a fender? My local wrecking yard never has any Porsche's. Does it matter it the fender was off an old 924? Would driving to Sacramento be the best bet for a fender, or Redding?

Oh and sorry for the crappy cell phone picture. I don't have a working camera.

Sure! Just send me the couple of grand it takes to do that!

Defiantly a "Whoa" Cole. Have you looked into your similar problem?

used fenders show up here and on 924board.org pretty frequently and pretty cheap - under $100 easy. I would imagine that unless you're doing bodywork yourself, its certainly cheaper to buy another fender (that doesnt have bondo) and have it repainted. You're going to need it painted anyway, might as well get rid of the bondo (and whatever else is underneath it that they needed bondo!) while you're at it

Yea thats what I'm leaning towards. Unless the bondo way is a lot cheaper, I'll bondo it up until I actually get money, and I can get a whole new fender. But if I got a new fender, I'd have to repaint the whole fender, which would cost lots of $. And I could leave one fender with fresh paint, and the other without. That would look odd. lol.

you'd be surprised I think how close a good bodyshop can get the fresh paint to look like the old. I've had about half of my car repainted over the past couple years (including replacing/painting a busted up fender), and it looks pretty good. Not concours perfect, but then again, I didn't pay for a concours perfect, full-body paint job either. So I suggest don't waster your time and money re-bondo-ing something that's already messed up - do it right, even if you can't repaint the rest of the car to match

full disclosure, I am trying to eventually save up for a full re-spray to make it perfect, but that's just the perfectionist in search of projects in me
