Body filler (brand name Bondo) is used in even "perfect" sheet metal to make it smoother and cleaner. Many time straight from the factory cars will get body filler in them. Especially with older cars.

If done correctly, body filler is nothing to fear. Honestly you will never find a "perfect" car that does not have some level of body filler in it.

Obviously if its 1/2" thick there are other issues.

Not concours perfect, but then again, I didn't pay for a concours perfect, full-body paint job either. So I suggest don't waster your time and money re-bondo-ing something that's already messed up - do it right, even if you can't repaint the rest of the car to match

full disclosure, I am trying to eventually save up for a full re-spray to make it perfect, but that's just the perfectionist in search of projects in me
Yea I didn't really want to go the cheap way out of it. I know that bondo is bad, so if I can get a fender well priced and paint it with the money I have, I will. But I'm sure it's going to cost a lot more than I have, so I'll have to start saving up.
