I learned very quick that I can't afford to have a super modified 944 Turbo but I can afford to have a very lightly modified 944 Turbo. See where I'm getting at? I purchased a electronic boost controller just for the ability that if I set it for 10psi it will force me to use it there. I only use 15psi setting every once in a great great while, for example mustang pulls up.
. I just keep the boost way down, and only use the power in the most demanding situations. I to was at your point once, but go out and test drive those other cars and you will see my another 1k "anit" so bad?! lol Please tell the list what's up?? I thought John Anderson was building you a motor?

Though I have not been very vocal about it, I have not had the best experience with this rebuild. When I have some more time I will tell the full story, but this friday I thought it was finally all over with the arival of my block. I was wrong again. My block arrived in a beat up cardboard box held together with packing tape. It had one layer of bubble paper and some popcorn. While inspecting my block I found a good size dent on the top, back, right side that smooshed the metal creating a ledg on the deck. There are other dents and scraches on other parts of the block. Most of the dents have bits of red paint from the outside of the box. This is a day after my wide fire gasket arived bent in half.

Goddamned! If I built a $3000+ motor, I would surely put it in a ****ing crate. Any motor builder that doesn't do this is an idiot. How can you expect cardboard to protect a dense item weighing 100+ lbs!
If I took ANY pride in my work, I would be concerned that it got to my customer in good condition. I don't know if it was Garrity, John Anderson, or Turbo Tim who built your motor. Whoever it was, he should be ashamed of himself.
Obviously, **** UPS or whatever other shipping company for damaging it, but is there anyone who would expect anything less from these companies?

I don't want any blame put on anyone, because I don't know what the box looked like when it left SFR. I can tell that the actual damage was done during shipping and I can say that when I shipped the block I had my father build a wood box for it. My father will be home some time Sunday and we will do some more inspecting of the block. Some fathers day present. We'll make a decision on what to do next on Sunday. I guess i shouldn't be shocked by this delay. My father has wasted both of his vacation periods do to delays. I saved up money and found a job that let me have weekends off so that I could enter track events this summer.
I was planning on driving my car after spring break (March) I'd just like to have it running by the time I have to go back to school.

So, instead of "I'm done with these Porsches", it should be "I'm done with UPS".
Hang in there. When things get bad like this - it makes the "good" (which is just around the corner) so much better. When everything goes too good, the end result is always less satisfying.
It will all work out in the end - doesn't it always?

There is no excuse for shipping a block in ANY cardboard box. Common sense dictates that should have been shipped in a wooden box or crate. It also sounds like it was not packed properly. I would hold SFR liable.
Hang tight and DON'T back down. Good luck with the rest of the rebuild.

Hey Steve,
I'm a personal friend of the man you "trashed" in your post. I'm not referring to Garrity, John Anderson, or Turbo Tim, but rather God. Please respect those of us on the board who are Christians and keep your "rants" more respectable - it wasn't even your car.

Tell God to call me, he can use 10-10-220 if he is low on change.
Bro that sucks about your block. What does that make it? UPS-3, P-car guys-0? We need a new power forward. This all gives new meaning to the term, "Going Postal". Maybe we should all pitch in and buy a few trucks to deliver Porsche parts nationwide. At least the parts would arrive in the shape they left in.
Maybe a class-action lawsuit with all the people that have been screwed by UPS. That might get their attention.

You have struck the nail on the head.
I dont give a **** about what kind of cardboard packing genius these guys think they are. I am planning to send my block off to someone, not sure who yet, later this fall. I want it perfect when it comes back. That is the whole reason I am paying someone to do it.
And woe to the stupid sonofabitch who thinks that after paying him thousands of dollars, I will be satisfied with a halfass/halfwit job of sending it back. I will be waiting with a big lawyer shaped stick, ready to pound someones ***. Hint Hint.
You engine builders better take notice. I dont care if you build the best fscking engine in the world. Obviously, the best engine in the world is a boat anchor with a tweaked deck. Morons.
Yeah, you. Everyone of you who has sent someones block back halfassed.
Got a problem with that?
