Post PS Pump Removal (pics)+ Rebuild **New Problem**

**See Bottom Post For New Issue**

I am right in the middle of trying to remove my ps pump and I cannot get the darn thing off. After I got it to swing freely I removed a nut from the front end and a bolt and thick metal sleeve from the other. It looks like there is a sleeve on the other end that should come off but won't. I put arrows to that on some of the pics. Anyone know how to get the pump off, or get that sleeve off? Any help is appreciated, I need to go to school tomorrow!

I believe so, but it was a bolt, the one farthest to the left in the last pic.

I think I see your problem...The sleeve/spacer you have the arrows pointed to is on the wrong side of the mounting bracket...

I believe that should be on the other side (towards the rear) of the mounting bracket...You should be able to get a screwdriver or flat punch in behind the spacer and knock it out...That opening where the spacer is now is for a nut/washer...Once you get the sleeve/spacer off the bolt you should be home free...

Speaking of power steering pumps, anyone have the part numbers or specifications for the bolt/shaft/nut in the first picture you're pointing to? My car seems to be a bit challenged in this area . The bolt directly across from it would be nice to know too. Thanks in advance.

I would spray a ****load of wd40 or some other grease all over the end spacer, let it sit for a while, spray some more on, and then use some pliers or a crescent to try to screw it off the last bit of thread, and then pull it off.

Thanks, I feel more comfortable whacking at something I know is supposed to come off! The spacer isn't even threaded so I should be able to get it outta there.

I got it off! It took a couple good hits from a hammer onto a screw driver, but it's off. Thanks again, now I can start re-sealing it.

BTW zakk, when I get on my other computer I will check the PET for you and try and get you the numbers.

I seem to have run into another snag. I am now trying to get the pump all apart to install the new seals, and I can't seem to get this clip/ring thing off of the end of the long part the pulley is attached to. It seems to be the only thing keeping me from getting that piece out. I am referring to the ring with the gap just above the gears. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Conor

I have a question along these line, I have an '87 944S and the forward PS pump mount is cracked and broken where the bolt goes through. Can I replace this mount or do I have to weld it?. Anyway, any help with this would be GREATLY appreciated.

Actually, I had forgotten that I have school off tomorrow. But, I thought it was bad for the power rack to run with no fluid, and I drained all of the fluid when I took the pump off.

Here is what I found for part numbers: <img src="http://members.rennlist.com/cfgriffin/partnum.jpg" alt=" - " />
The top two are from the back of the pump. In the PET the front bolt/nut is shown as part of the pump, so there was no separate number.

the spacer in the front of the pump was in the correct location, it belongs in front of the bracket. The ring is a snap ring, you will need to expand it to get it off. There are special pliers to do this job but you may be able to get it off with a couple of screwdrivers working agianst each other. Wear eye protection, these things can take off, they are stiff springs.
