Default Door doesn't lock

Just got my car back from the body shop (1989 944 turbo) and the drivers door lock doesn't lock when you lock/turn the key on the door. The light/alarm flashes and the passenger lock locks and flashes. They might have removed the door panel but before I call thought I ask for a quick fix idea? All help appreciated.

Thanks,
Will

you may have the same problem as myself, try going around to the passenger side and locking it from that side with the key, when i do that both of my doors lock, but the drivers door won't do both...

there is a white lock arm that attaches to the door handle as well as the handle mechanism itself- if they had the door handle off they may have not gotten that back on right.

Yup, BTDT. You feel so good about getting the regular latch mechanism connected and working, you don't remember that second one. Fun stuff. Bruce

Is it difficult to remove the panel and reinstall the latch? Are there threads on how to remove the door panel?

Not so much difficult as a huge pain in the ***. In the 86+ cars, there is an anti slim-jim plate in the way. You might be able to work around it, but it really depends on the size of your hands. I ended up disassembling the rear window track to get everything out of the way.

I did the arms on my 88 without having to do anything other than remove the door panel with the window UP...

If it isn't locking with the key though I doubt it is the ARM so much as the linkage... Mine would still lock and unlock with the key, just not the power... Now power works...

I would pull the door panel off and poke around, or take it back to the body shop and tell them it was working fine before you brought the car in, but now isn't, maybe they forgot to hook something up inside the door...

I say bring it back and tell them to do it. The exact same thing happened to me when i got my car back, but I'm pretty well acquainted with how to do it so i just did it myself.
