Talking supercharging a N/A

Hello fellow rennlist members, I haven't actually introduced me since I looked around for a long time now.

I Etienne 20 years old, and have a 84' 944 Totally rebuilt (still pending) and a 79' 928 (lot's of work) My dad has a porsche Garage and is focused on selling Transaxle porsche, I am in to racing and tuning. And I am from holland

I am looking for more Hp (just for fun) I was thinking about supercharging, I like the noise and it isn't common. I have searched around on rennlist and read the stories of blown 944 and others. What I mis in those topic's, they don't have actual dyno results, so I don't know what to expect. If I look at the turbo topic's you can guess what kind of hp the car will make looking at the mods they have done. I don't want a turbo right now because everyone has one, I want something different .

So is it possible to have around 300 - 350 Whp with a supercharger.
An what would be the best supercharger, a rootsblower like the eaton or go for a turbo style supercharger. And what would be the maximum hp out without changing the CR?

Etienne

a roots blower (eaton) or better screw-type aka lysholm (whipple/kenne belle) would provide instant power. a centrifigal supercharger wouldn't provide the same power at lower rpm's but would do just as well in higher rpm's.

I dug up this photos the other night. I did this back in 99-2000, This was done using a really nice supercharger. It was an Autorotor.

I am not a huge fan of dyno numbers for various reasons.

I like to get my numbers from the mph at the track. The supercharger I had on mine netted ~ 100mph which is ~ 240 rwhp w/o intercooler and using a water injection.

With intercooler and a little more boost (smaller pulley) it went between 104 and 105 so ~ 280 true whp.

I had it running more boost than that later, and it was definitely faster. I just never took it to the track to prove it so probably ~ 300 or so. This is all at 5800ft elevation though so there would be a little more power at good air.

IMO a twin screw is the only way to go as far as supercharging goes. If I had it to do all over again I would go that route off the bat.

I have since moved over to turbos and have ran much better mph in heavier car and made undoubtabley more power but I still love the s/c. I sometimes think about just going back to that setup.

Just make sure to build the bottom end for the ultimate power goal

blown 944, your car hasn't got the standart CR so you can run more boost.
What boost can you run without modifications?

his supercharged motor is a 1983 motor with original pistons, i believe the CR is 9.7:1 because the head was decked etc. he can run that boost because he uses ethanol as fuel..

isn't when you deck the head the CR get's more not less.

Is it that big of difference when you use E85? you can run losts more boost?

yes, there is that difference with E85. ethanol burns ALOT cooler than gasoline. it reduces knock ALOT.

V2Rocket,
What intercooler are you planning on using? How much boost? What is the CR of your motor?

i have a stock rebuilt NA engine, between 9.5-9.6:1 CR (had a good bit of the head machined off because of a pitted head gasket). using an eaton M90 off a supercoupe, around 8psi with a air/water ic and dedicated cooling system for space reasons (no room to plumb a FMIC, water lines are small) and alcohol injection with the DME on full retard/enrichment and 951 injectors.

when E85 becomes more available around here i will convert my car to run on that, in addition to pushing the boost to maybe 16psi and getting a bigger water heat exchanger. currently there are only 3 stations that sell E85 within 200 miles
