I think the new 370z looks a lot like the 944.

A question already answered by Porsche. The 944 was replaced by the 968. The 968 by the 986. Then the 987!

If you're asking what a 2010 front engined entry Porsche would look like, then, ? Porsche has no need for a small roadster as they have a boxster. No need for a medium performance car as they have a cayman. What they need is a sports car with utility, as there is no Porsche with a decent trunk. They would never do FWD. I think AWD would make it expensive but people might like that feature. Let's go with RWD hatchback, 2+2. Take a 370z, give it a longitudinally mounted vr6, and the basic body cues off a boxster or cayman. It would look a lot like the photoshop on p1 I'm sure.

Would it sell? Well if you're in the market for a 370z or similar, it better be quick. But if its quick it will steal sales from the cayman. They could make it cheaper but LOL Porsche never does that.

Yeah but it would compete with the cayman! I'm trying to come up with a basic formula for a new 944 that could work, but I just don't see it. The base boxster has 255 hp, 3000 lb, and costs $47k. I was thinking of a car at about $25-30k but it would have to be slow to not take boxster sales, and if it's slow nobody will buy it. I mean you can buy a low-miles 968 for under $20k, and it will be 3100lb and 236 hp, sounds great to me.

Oh and I love the z4 coupe btw!

i think the boxster can be phased out now though...its been around for 12 years so far without really all that much in changes.

however if rumors of a 2-door version of the panamera are true then we may get something close, a FR coupe but probably more GT/928 in its focus.

Basic formula for Porsche to make a 944 revisit would be for Porsche to renew it's interest in Grand Tourer FR/FMR class of car to compete with similar cars in the class from other manufacturers...

Maseratti
Ferrari
Aston Martin
etc....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Grand_tourers

But, with the PAG dedication to flat 6 development and production of boxter engine cars and nothing else, who knows if they will ever re-visit this historic and storied relm of car history (notice the 928 is on the wiki page but not the 924-944-968 series)

So, after my last post, I got up and went down the hall to take care of some business, While there I pick up the Nov 06 Car and driver, and open it to page 38, which discusses "Porsche to put out new front-engine coupe in 2011" and indicates a 2 door Panamera derivative... Hmmmm

For some reason the new Nissan 370 has a profile that makes me think of the 944. Longish hood, short tail, the rear quarter windows, 50/50 weight distibution.

When offering parts FS, pics and prices are customary.
