Default value of a 944S engine

I just picked up an S engine that the PO said had a miffed exwife/girlfriend? pour a can of coke *the drink* in the gas tank. The block/pistons etc is in one piece and looks good with no scoring to note and the head is in pieces with everything there either new or cleaned. I did some searches and haven't found much about price of an S engine. Really just looking to sell it as it is unless I have to put it back together to get the best $ out of it. No idea on milage as the PO picked it up from the guy without the odometer in it? I know that it doesn't have the papers and there is no background on the engine so realistically what is it worth. thanks Ply

I sold a perfectly good, running S engine two years ago. It had a full history, no leaks, fairly new clutch, and 60,000 miles. I got $1000, and the buyer handled shipping arrangements.

If the head is apart, your engine sounds like it may be worth parting.

I'm always watching for them and $1000 seems to be the going rate. They're rare but there isn't that much demand as there are so few S's. If you sell it to someone who wants to swap it into an 8v make sure they know they need the wiring harness including that igniter thingy that is behind the drivers headlight.

I thought the 951 guys go crazy over finding a 16v 944S head? I think the head is worth big bucks, to a 951 guy or even an S guy because those heads break all the time. The bottom end is pretty unspecial.

I think it is the 3.0L 16 valves from S2

You might be thinking of the 89 944 2.7L head with larger valves and ports but it's still 8V. The 16V turbo conversions are usually starting with a 3.0L block and dropping compression through piston design. A 2.7L head with good valves can go for $1500.

My S engine is freshly rebuilt and runs like a top. I would not take 1K for it as it cost over 7K to get it up to snuff after Krynock made some mistakes on the electrical end of the rebuild and wouldn't own up to it.

I got it fixed and now it is great! 5k on it and so far so good.

Yes, I know that for 7K I could have bought another car, but I didn't and don't want to. Im over 30K into my S and will continue to pour money into it as it wants.
