Too stiff rear end on S2??
A couple of weeks ago I got an 18mm rear sway bar with solid mounts and put it on the car. The car came to me with upgraded springs including coil overs in the back. i don't know the spring rates. I had a 16mm bar in the rear and did no upgrades to the front (26.9mm). I don't think I had driven it since I did the work.
When I drove it this evening, the car seemed to have a massive amount of oversteer even at really low speeds. I can turn the wheel about 90 degrees and it just seems like it's going to come around..almost like a 911, if you turn the wheel hard and apply gas on a wet pavement. It seems really odd.
I think I'm going to put the 16mm on until I can get an M030 for the front. Yikes. Anyone else ever have this dramatic experience?
I had an n/a with an 18mm rear and a 26.9mm in the front of that car with konis and stock springs and it wasn't like this.

I put M030s front and back (replacing stock n/a) and also have firm springs. The rear has delrin center bushings, so it's stiff. I set the bar at the middle-hole.
I definitely find the car assuming more significant slip angles for example on highway on-ramps, but it does not seem scary at all. Is it possible that it's binding up somewhere?

Yes, its possible. The S2 had an airbag steering wheel. When I took it off, you could see all the gears and levers for the turn signals. I got a part for an n/a off ebay and the hole was too small. So I trimmed a bigger hole for the momo adapter and it bound up. I trimmed it more and more and thought I had it covered. I don't think that's the issue, but I will remove it and see if that fixes the problem. FWIW, I have a traffic circle in front of my house and I used it like a skid pad tonight that was fun, but if I have really stiffened the rear too much, it's no longer neutral. Which is odd for a 944.

I was thinking that maybe the sway bar links were binding. I don't know how steering gears could create oversteer. Good luck diagnosing. First and easiest step would be to simply unbolt an end link on the rear bar. If the oversteer goes away then at least you've isolated the problem.

I have an S2 and it came with the standard 26.8mm front and M030 19mm adjustable rear sways. It was a little bit oversteery, but not too bad. I changed the front to 30mm M030 sway and then stiffened the 19mm rear to the middle hole. There are solid mounts for the rear sway and braces for the front. It is quite neutral on the track. You will always get oversteer in the wet under power in the S2 due to the extra torque over the na. It is not really oversteer as you are braking traction due to power application. What are the tyres (tires for you US people) like?

I took the steering wheel off and removed the "decor" plate. It must have been binding ever so slightly that when I got to a quarter turn, it would move freely. Thus, I would over crank with my arms since I had to apply more pressure. I removed it, and test drove the car (in the rain to bed in new pads/rotors) and all seems fine. And I made it back.

That's funny. I'd love a little oversteer. Maybe not as much as you. I'm running stock tire sizes and the car pushes... all the time. I can talk to a couple people and see what they think. I'd look over the mechanicals while someone turns the wheel and see what's going on there.
