Rear wiper woes
My rear wiper does nothing. The fuse is fine. Is there a relay for it? Which one is it?
What would you guys do to troubleshoot it?
Thanks!

My wiper works, but when I switch it off it just stops wherever it is, it doesn't return to the "rest" position. It's a minor annoyance since I rarely use the wiper, but anyone have any ideas what causes this problem? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Sure do, wipers have a cam that applies power to the motor until it gets in the home position. If the cam is broke, the motor does one of two things, it never stops, or it just stops as soon as you turn it off. The cam is normally in the gear box that drive the blade.

Whenever I engage my rear window wiper, it whips back and forth a few times, and then flops entirely off one side of the car, gets stuck, and makes a groaning noise.
I have found one solution to this problem: never engage the rear wiper.
This is one "option" I could live without!

Check the switch for voltage. The switch (if I recall) has three wires, and is prone to failure (How novel that Porsche electrical parts would fail). If the switch is bad, I would go to All Electronics and see if they have a replacement switch that will do the job..I did... There should be current on one side of the switch. The opposite side of the switch wire color should be brown. The center wire goes to the motor. Make certain that this is the sequence since Porsche did not use a polarized plug on the rear wiper and switching these wires can result in a dead short (I have seen at leat two with fried wiring running under the l.h. rocker cover to the rear). If I have time tomorrow I will pull my switch and recheck my memory. In the motor assembly, the cam mechanism can fail. In that case, the unit will not "park" properly (or at all!!!).
The motor can be (carefully!!) disassembled and cleaned. LABEL ALL WIRES THAT ARE REMOVED!!If the contacts in the cam area are dirty, a touchup with very fine emery paper can clean them up, clean the groove of the cam and use a little Lubriplate. I doubt the brushes are worn out; it would take considerable usage for this to happen.
Good luck

Just in case the simple solution was overlooked: My rear wiper stopped working...motor noise was there, but the arm didnt move. Turns out the nut that holds the arm on was loose--a few turns with a socket wrench, and the wiper wipes again!!

I've always wondered why they don't key the wiper arm so that even if the retaining nut is loose it will still engage, every wiper arm i've seen has some crappy engagement to the drive shaft.
