Default Removed severe paint oxidation

Took my first stab yesterday at machine polishing. Trying to bring some level of decency to the paint on my 83 track car.

To say the least, I was amazed what some decent product and a buffer could do.

Porschephile and TomR saw my car before I did this. They can attest to how crappy it looked.

Check out the pics and more details at my blog,

i bet for a snowboard you could have gotten geoff to detail the whole car inside and out. maybe even could have gotten him to detail one of the clean cars too.

i have a buddy in ny who does phenominal work detailing his new cars. i compliment him often telling him nobody can clean a clean car as good as him!

you signing up for the parade or one of the de's? registration for high plains opened up today. only 175 for one day.

Thank you for registering for the Track Initiation Daze Drivers Education Event at High Plains Raceway on Sunday, April 26, 2009! We look forward to seeing you at the track. You will receive an email confirmation shortly with more information.

Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the event to receive a refund or credit. A 5% processing fee will be deducted from all refunds.

There are no concessions at the track - water will be available, but please plan to bring your own lunch and plenty to drink.

I think I will skip the first DE at highplains as I am still getting the 944 shaken down and do not want to waste $175 on a car that is not ready to be tracked all day.

I will however, be doing the autocross at Bandimere.

I won't be doing any of the official Parade events with my car. I just don't go in for big crowded events. But I will go up probably thursday night and walk around Friday just to look at all the cars.

I think the shiny part is where it has been buffed and the hood is where it hasn't been worked on.

That is right. The shiny part is the done part. The whole car looked like the hood before I started.

ANd I post pics on my blog because it is easier than here, and I can keep track of all my stuff easier. Just click on the link at the top of the post.

The color is Sable Brown Metallic.

The interesting thing is going to be seeing how well this stands up to a good rain shower. My 80 928 didn't look quite as bad as the hood in that photo, but it did have oxidation. It responded pretty well to the three step Maguires routine, but as soon as it rains and dries off, it clouds back up again. Requires constant attention to keep it looking decent, much more so than a car with fresh paint or clearcoat.

The color code is LY8V/L4

And I think it will hold up pretty well. I washed it after all the steps and it still looked good. The Klasse is a very solid protective product. Doesn't shine as well as wax, but protects longer and better.
