Are the 50W german bulbs the same price as the BA15's?

led, I wrote up a big note explaining all of this to others and athens944. Of course Rennlist crashed for a few hours and everything was lost. Better save to Word or the like if you put together a long post for Rennlist because it is a 50/50 chance you will lose it. I'm so pissed because I layed it out pretty well. I need to go to bed so will not do it again tonight.

To your question. The BA stands for bayonet socket. 15 is the mm diameter. S is the number of contacts at the base - one in this case. Yes, for the German bulbs it is the same exact bulb except it is 50 watts and costs the same.

I included you in the international group along with a guy in Guam, which are all attached to the USA, but it takes a boat or airplane to get to you. And all the other true international fellows like down in Australia and over the Atlantic pond.

But you are socked in on the 35 watters. If you want to go with the 30 watt Taiwan let me know.

I'll stay with the 35W. I just didn't think I was in the international group and was considering the other options.

led, that is fine.

I wish the rest of you boys that are going to get "screwed"/unallocated would let me know what you would like to do regarding the halogen bulbs. I think the Taiwan 30 watt halogen bulbs will work fine for the summer lighting up your tail lights. Heck, they will probably work fine for years. Then when the 35 watt German ones become available you can pick up some and have plenty of bulbs for probably the rest of the car's life.

As I noted, I've been running a sample Taiwan 30 watt halogen in a brake light cell and it works just fine.

But you need to let me know so I can put in the final bulb order.

Jim944s: You know, I was reviewing your order and noted this business about the trailer lights. I don't know what kind of lights you have on the trailer but I'm not sure if the sockets are going to work. The sockets are Hella design and use the metal backplate to ground the bulb. If you take a look at your P-Car rear lens you will see what I mean. So I don't know if these sockets are going to work with your trailer lights. The bulb base is a BA15S so should just plug into any old normal socket UNLESS your trailor has a dual filament 1157. One filament for running light and another for brake in the same bulb. Then you need to do some rework.

Let me know what exactly is the deal with the trailer.

Cool

Hi Dan!

The trailer uses Porsche tail lights and side markers as well as phone dials hubs, spindles, etc. Sory, I should have mentioned.

Thanks again!

Jim, that must be one fancy custom trailer!

Ok, I have you set. But what do you want to do about the halogen bulb shortage until September? You are getting the most of these halogens with an order for 13. I think you have some spares in there so what I think you should do is get the Taiwan 30 watters for $5 each to hold you over the summer and then when Fall comes get some more of the German 35 watters. You should be set for a long time going that route and the Taiwan 30 watters seem to work just fine as brake bulbs in my car. And at 30 watt they are a little cooler burning so would be better for the Flordia heat and stop and go traffic.

Bump.

You USA guys need to tell me what to do on the halogens. My bulb supplier has convinced me that these Taiwan Halogen bulbs will work great and that fits with my sample that has been burning for a few months. He isn't making much money off this and I'm just doing it for cost, so no PIAA like marketing scheme to rip you off.

And it is the only game in town until September/October unless you want to spend $15 per bulb.

David, Ok, we have one more guy that let me know.

I wish just one of my projects would go smooth on the supply end.

Hi Jim,

That is fine, do you want the sockets and wiring parts now so you can at least get that done? It is pretty simple to do and if you have some spare time may as well do it.

My bulb supplier is going to rag on the factory and try to get them to change over a line to the 35 watt bulbs for a day. The problem is they (factory) are making so much money filling OEM 2004 new model contracts for 9003/4/7 bulbs that they don't want to screw around with our requirements. Money talks, so I'm not expecting much on this front.
