everything I know about the subject can be summed up by 2 pictures:

<a href="http://porsche.pdxmax.com/pictures/sensor1.jpg" target="_blank">1</a>
<a href="http://porsche.pdxmax.com/pictures/sensor2.jpg" target="_blank">2</a>

edit- note on the second picture it also shows a knock sensor, even though I have the KLR selected.

Thanks Tabor. A little light on the subject... but where the hell does it bolt in? I can't find it in haynes, the factory manual...

grumble grumble...

Oh well, researching this is getting my mind off work, which is just horrible just now... <img src="graemlins/icon107.gif" border="0" alt="[icon107]" />

It's bolted to the block underneath your intake manifold on the 944 Turbo. I don't know how much they cost, but if it's a lot I can sell you mine for cheap ... I'm installing a Tec-II and it won't use the stock one.

On the left side of the pic - bolted to the head with one bolt - made of black plastic.

Brumos quoted me $40.84 - out of stock - ugh!

Apparently 951's only have 1 knock sensor (mechanic told me there were two)

"Apparently 951's only have 1 knock sensor (mechanic told me there were two)"

Apparently the 968 has two. I'm only inferring this from the fact that my only experience so far with the check engine light returned an error code for "Knock sensor #1". Turned out that I'd gotten coolant into the wiring plug for it while bleeding the cooling system.

Note for Thaddeus... be very sure to research the tightening torque for the bolt... I know the one on my Jetta was _very_ sensitive to this; when the bolt is too loose, the computer lost the signal & went into a protective mode, which caused a major loss of power until corrected.

Jim, really out to lunch this time...

&lt;sarcasm&gt;Just like the 951 oil cooler which can be quick released to get the radiator off. &lt;/sarcasm&gt;
