While driving my 968 daily I would think the 968 was OK, 944 slow, and my diesel a dog.
While driving my 944 daily, I would think my 944 is fairly quick, the diesel ain't bad, and the 968 a farking rocket.
While driving the diesel daily, I would think I want to hang myself.

No I love my diesel, for what it is... a slow but comfy dreadnought. The 944 has always felt sportier than the 968 to me. It's not a slow car!

How much boost you want... been running mine over 25psi for sometime now. All NA stuff except dme, Klr,knock sensor thrown into my 951 DD.

Just pulled the head this week to put the turbo head on to aid in spoolup and the pistons and cylinders look beautiful. Over 4000 hard miles so far

Gotta love E85

I think my dad's daily car is the slowest diesel ever. A '91 Mercedes 300D. I swear it goes slower when you 'accelerate'. Once we raced a potato chip delivery truck and got our asses handed to us.

LOL, so true! It shows you how subjective "fast" is.

sid, you are such a good asset to the 944 community; you do things everyone else says isn't possible. everyone rags on e85 because its supposed to chew up fuel lines but you did it anyways and turned out fine. now you run 25psi on a 9.7:1 block without issue.

thanks!

The "pack" and I separated quite awhile ago.

Funny though, they never come back to say anything nice after ragging my *** in the early days.

I expect my next dyno session to be over 500 hp and I wonder what will be said when I do it with a NA Shortblock??

Just to be clear on the stages of evolution with "this" engine

100+k stock miles
installed new bearings
installed ARP HS and WF
changed to E85
added supercharger
ran 18 psi
ran mid 13's in 83 body
pulled to do more mods
installed in 951 b/c of blown HG (in turbo motor) at over 35 psi (could have jsut replace HG but wanted to test higher compression)
have been developing Twin scroll on it running over 25 psi
tested 3 turbos on it
pulled NA head to install turbo head for "theory test" of ceramic liners helping spool and b/c it is nicely ported
going back together with even more compression (head shaved .030) should be done by mid week, holding to my never down for more than a week ideal.

I'd say it's been pretty good to me considering some of the first responses (over 3 years ago) I received were about how the pistons/rings would be toast immediately.

Oh and all this time it has served as a DD when being driven both in the 44 and now In the 51. Pretty happy with my NA........Yes I am

Blown 944... you're running that much boost with NA pistons? Damn, E85 must be the liquid form of pixie dust! NA rods too? So all the stuff about RARST rods etc is just phooey?

There's a way to make these mercedes turbodiesels faster. Mine was slower than slow until I tweaked the fuel injection pump's altitude compensator (like "chipping" it). The guys on the diesel forums call it the ALDA. It made a huge difference.

Can you elaborate on this? Do you know if the audi diesels have one of these? The 5000 diesel is one of the first direct injection diesels so it should shouldn't it? What is the effect on the fuel economy?

Thanks
