Default Respray price

OK, I just got the quote from my painter.

4300.00 for a complete respray of the car to its original color but with much more clear on it for a deep wet shine.

This includes removal of all glass, painting door jambs and beyond, all trim removed and replaced, refinishing the rear bumper covers, installing a fiberwerks front end kit, removing the old and installing the new rear spoiler, all dings dents and so on repaired, all rust removed and repaired, pretty much a full on assault on the car.

The guy who wants to do it is excited to do it, he usually does accident repair but has done alot of paint work and I have seen his work and it is really nice, he comes very highly recommended.

I want opinions on this price. Do you folks think it is high or is it spot on? I have never had a car painted like this before so I am in the dark here.

Thanks.

Haven't had a car repainted, either, but I would think that for removing everything, fixing any body issues, and painting, that doesn't seem out of this world.

I've been putting it off for years figureing it would be around $5k, so your price seems good.

I, personally, would look into just selling and getting a car with very very good factory paint. Dealing with body shops is a hassle and resprays are often well short of good factory paint. You might get a good job for that money but that's half the price of what I would expect to pay to be really pleased with a paint job and not just thinking "that'll do." Can the hassle plus the cost not exceeed the price of a garaged, low mile, well cared for example?

Durability is usually a problem I have seen on repaints. Paint that chips off really easily, like the candy coating on an M&M.

I agree with the above statement . You just can never get original quality robustnes as the originally the body is baked in an oven.
At the risk of geting sand blasted by you guys I think the resale value of a 944 makes the above statement true. I had one and the resale value is low enough to consider a better car over a paint job.

WHile I understand your stance, I must counter with this.

I have over 30K invested into the car from day one including purchase price.

New engine, suspension, period correct aftermarket rims, TONS of mechanical repairs, (duh it's a Porsche) and other items I have upgraded or replaced. Other than the drivers seat, dash and paint/body, it is a seriously well sorted car. It drives like a go kart.

The paint comes from a national dealer, and it warrantied for the LIFE of the vehicle as long as I own it.

Not to mention, I couldn't sell "Wednesday" (car's name) I love that car, I would probably drive my Z06 into a wall in order to keep her. Got her in a fit op panic, a week before my son was born.

So, I will be keeping her for the duration.

Thanks though!
