Default Snub nose completed

After a minor hit that damaged the nose panel and front bumper I decided to have the body shop fill all the holes on the replacement bumper before paint so I could do the snub nose mod I've seen..

I gave them a used center panel and bumper and they did the paint work for me.. I got the car put together this weekend and I really like the look. Not for everyone, especially the purists, but for me..it's a 25 year old car in great shape and I don't think going with this look was a bad thing to do at all~

Here it is:

How did you get it to sit so far back? This is one of my future mods and I'm looking for some help on how to move the bumper back.
Looks great.

drill the shocks, use brute leg force to kick her back in. check to see if you have a tow hook though, as it may interfere.

Well... part of that is true.. I wasn't about to use "brute leg force to kick" my newly painted bumper back in LOL...

Make 2 holes in each shock.. one in front of the mounting plate, one behind.
Take some time to work the shock in and out again and again to drain as much fluid as possible.. Also, make a razor slice in the rubber sleeve..this will make it easier to get the fluid out (since you drill through the rubber sleeve) and it will also let the bumper push back in all the way without alot of resistance.

I used a couple soft rags and just pushed the bumper in by hand and it went in as far as it could till it bottomed out.. no problem at all.

Side note on drilling the shocks.. they are pressurized, but we are not talking about a big explosion here. It was like releasing the pressure in a can of soda by pulling the tab.. no big deal.

Beautiful car. Same color as my 88. (hell to keep clean and the clearcoats peeling).

I like the euro look a lot, although I think i'd keep the rubber pads.

I've got a few dead bumper shocks for folks who are desiring to do this... don't waste perfectly good bumper shocks for this!

Or just skip it, I think it looks bad. That straight-ish bumper line so close to the curve of the nose panel is jarring and the big gaps never look good. Without the extra length it also makes the bumper look like it is mounted too high. It looks like a bumper from another car has been slapped on there.

once you've gotten wax on the bumper pads trying to wax the bumper and turned the top halves of them white and had to figure out how to get it off just to do it again, you understand why we do it...

Thanks guys.. I know some don't like the look.. I think it freshens up the front end myself and I've already had a couple people comment on the car at the gas station..

The original owner had the car pro painted about 2 years ago.. all glass, trim and lenses were removed, all seals were replaced etc. It was a base coat clear wetsanded and buffed job.. car looks fantastic in person. All the body panels are lazer straight..not one ripple or dimple anywhere.

Interior isn't bad for the year but it does have the dash cracks.. I reupholstered the seats when I added a sport seat to the drivers side. The console, door panels etc are all in great shape.

I might do different wheels at some point, or refinish the cookie cutters.. but for now I'm happy with the way the car looks.
