as a follow up. cars as investment blah blah. the 100k 356s are not 100k of 'profit' to the people that bough them 20 years ago. most have 50k+ in restoration costs.

i think the cost of the 'shell' of the 'run of the mill' porsches bringing big money is (like i said before) about the value of 'junk' and the money the purchaser is paying is for the 'resoration' or 'preservation' invested in the car. it isnt cheap to keep a car in a heated or moisture controlled garage, insured, etc.

as foar as teh pecking order of collectible porshes goes, i think there are quite a few above the 968 turbo.

A 356 Carrera GT...............well yes, that would fall into the discussion. And I would have to rate that over the 968TS in terms of value and collector desirability.

i dunno man if someone gave me a 356 like that id make it nice and sell it so i could afford a 968TS or just go nuts on my '44. the 356s are nice looking cars but i dont want one.

I dunno, I would say that the 924 Carrera GT cars command more than a 10% premium over any regular production 924-944 model. They are front-engined water pumpers so they would never carry a preim over other Porsche collectibles, but they are fairly rare in terms of production numbers and represent an important notch in the transaxle evolution chart. It's not like its a 924 Sebring or 924 Rothmans car (which IMHO are special ed sticker cars).

It's not all about the looks, driving in a 356 GT is one best feelings ever. Hell just hearing the four-cam engine is a thing of beauty.

Yep, I agree. But 406 is a relatively large number as far as collectibles go.

What would a 924 C GT go for compared to say an 88 951S (yep the silver rose one) which has at least twice the production?

the 937 that was raced by the factory is exponentionally more valuable than the one owned by six different people. how would the 937 raceed by the factory compare in value to the 937 owned since new by a collector?

I would guess that the 924CGT would go for more than a SilverRose. Here is one that is going on the block today. They expect the range to be £15,000-£25,000. At the low end it is still more than I would expect a similar condition SilverRose to go for.

Talk about timeley. that thing has 10K kms on it. talk about bubble wrap.

hopefully, sports car market will profile that car. your trusty cub reporter will update you if it is profiled.

here is a useless thought:
if a 968 is worth X times a 924 and 406 937/938s were made, which is what 10x the 968 turbo, and the 927 sells for y, then is a 968 turbo worth about 5times y?

i was never good with word problems/equations. but i guess it wouldn't be 5x as much, it just really depends on the knowledge of the vehicles and how much you want it.
