This 944 has been one problem after another. The AC has broken twice, the HVAC is broken, the window switches are bad, and the ignition switch maybe bad which would explain why it has such trouble starting recently. Plus there's a strong chance this car was in a wreck at some point (the hood doesn't line up right). I love this car, but at the same time I'm done dumping so much money into it. I would rather sell it,and find a better example to play with. I've also kicked around the idea of a BMW Z3. Almost as expensive, and maybe just a little manlier than a miata.

Z3 is a better choice...but mine would still be the 951.

Just my opinion, but I love these cars...the stance, the look, the power and definitely the handling. A true classic with modern (evenby todays standards) performance numbers.

Whatever you decide,, get what makes you happy and good luck with your search

The only excuse is if you are using it as a second car (track rat)

Or if you have a girlfriend, youcan always just saw you bought it for her...

honda 2000's are amazing cars. if only i could find the HARD TOP for it, im not a convertible fan >_>

but miata's are great cars thou, and they have something most cars on the road want: they weigh like a soda can (XD)

if your going to get a miata get a MONSTER MIATA LOL

Or if you enjoy driving a simple, reliable, inexpensive car with lots of potential that is a blast to drive, and aren't hindered by certain insecurities.

I can't fit into a Miata, I've tried. I'm 6'1" with a 36" inseam. I can't get the drivers seat back far enough and my head almost hits the inside of the top already without a helmet on.

I've owned 3 Miatas and 3 944's..

The 944 fits me better as it has more leg room by far.. but the Miatas have all been dead reliable.. never, ever an issue. They just start up, and run flawlessly for years.. no matter how hard I flogged them, they always got 28-32mpg as well. Cheap parts, easy to work on, huge aftermarket support.. They are not gay at all

All that said, when I was ready to buy another 'toy / sports car" last month I looked at both Miatas and 944's.. bought the Porsche.

My dad is over 6" and daily drives his Miata, loves the thing! He's got some cool cars (993, Cayenne, Mini Works GP) and passes them up everyday - even drives it in the winter. Think it will be turbo soon...very fun car.

A turbo is definately in my distant future. The car handles great and I was outbraking pretty much every car at my last track day (HPDE 3, so it wasn't a rookie class), but I'll admit, it's pretty gutless, even moreso than the 944. While I haven't timed myself in either car, I suspect that I could turn out similar lap times in both although the 944's extra gunt does make it easier to regain any lost momentum. Once that Miata is no longer my daily driver and I get the rest of my chassis stuff sorted out, I want to start looking at a turbo... and since my engine came from a turbo charged car, it'll handle the boost quite nicely!

Yeah, but that still leaves the "insecurities" issue to be dealt with.

All joking aside, I agree that an MR2 would also be a good option to look at. 'specially the 2nd gen ones, which I love.

Default Miata

It does have an image...but who cares. If you like it who gives a sh*t. We drive cars because we like them not because of what others think right? Another car that I think might be an option and is reliable and fun is an Mr2 second gen. Just a thought. It's a toyota for god sakes. If I was smart I would be buying something like that instead of a car like the 944 which I'm going to be barely able to afford, but passion is passion.

It looks like some others think the MR2 is an option as well...I should read the posts before I post mine :-)
