Default 944 bellhousing cut away?!

Ok so I'm not sure if it's called a bellhousing or not, but I was removing the engine from a spare 87 944na and while unbolting the starter I noticed there was a man made chunk taken out of the flywheel assembly housing... bellhouse? (Whatever) It was almost directly before the starter on the bottom. I would guess it was cut out with a small circular saw, there are still marks where it cut but didn't cut through the metal - rather sloppy.

Is there any reason this would be there or that someone would intentionally cut a hole in at area?

Thanks

someone might have dropped a bolt into the inspection hole next to the reference sensors and cut the hole there to get it out

Must be 968 bellhousing envy. Doesn't sound like a good thing though having debris getting in that hole.

probably looks something like this?:

I'm looking to get this done within a few weeks too, on this pic a member of Porsche Club Norway did this for the same reason I'm going to, to access the "referance-screw" on the flywheel, wich in my case is missing, without having to lift the engine out..

That's pretty much what mine looks like except imagine Freddy Kruger hacked it to death. Goes right to the edge of the housing.
