Default How light weight can you build a 944 ?

Thinking about turning my 944 NA into a light weight car for the track and maybe run in one of the NASA GTS classes that is a power to weight ratio class. But the question is how light can you make a 944 ? I am open to using glass or CF doors, hood, lexan , etc if I could get low enough with it. Has anyone built one and have some real numbers ?

Thanks,
Viking

2,350 with driver (assuming you weigh <175. I'm at 2,500 with no fiberglass (924S) and still sporting heavy bumpers and undercoating.

I see quite a few different claims of weight.. Clarks says 2637# for late models and 2675# for earlies. Can anybody vouch for this?

Tim, your car is a 924S shell, right? How much lighter do you suppose you get compared to a 944 shell?

I cannot agree with those weights ^^

I weighed my 83 and with very minimal weight removal it was 2600. Front bumper, rear pad and rear seat back being the only removal. The other mods were: custom intake manifold and an Eaton M90 supercharger

this was on a certified scale

when I come out with it next I expect to be ~ 2200 max

Interior is completely stripped, including all no used wire, no heat/ac/blowers, and no driver or passenger windows or mechanisms, and one race seat. Add back in a complete roll cage, fire ext., and coolsuit. Engine bay is bare as well, no lights or light motors, no AC.

I've heard there is a difference of around 100 lbs.

I guess I should be clear about what I was disagreeing with

V2... very creatively .

I will say it will involve. Lexan, Fiberglass and aluminum.
So far I have cut out a pretty significant amount of weight and I just started.

I'm guessing if $$$ wasn't an object, one could go even lighter than 2200, what with CF paneling, lexan windows, stripped undercoating, stripped soundproofing, lighter flywheel, lightweight wheels, etc etc etc.

There's always something you can do to make things lighter!

I should make it clear that 2,500 is my race weight, that includes me with gear (175lbs) and a bit of gas, so the car is currently at 2,325 lbs.

There comes a point where you have an engine/drivetrain and shell that just can't be easily modified for weight.

I disagree completely. It all comes down to how much money you want to throw at it. I figure with the right engineering and an unlimited budget you could get this car down to about 1900#.

How?

Compressed structural carbon fiber bulkheads, frame members, body panels and suspension components.

So...who's got the cash?

C.
