Porsche Club Member Dealer Discount. What's yours?
I recently joined the Porsche Club, here in Spain and my membership card came in the mail yesterday.
After years of paying US$40 for PCA membership and getting a 10% discount on dealer prices that were already too high anyway, the €160 dues for the Spanish club seemed pretty steep, but dealer parts are more competitive here, so I thought I'd at least get the typical 10% discount.
I needed to change out the emissions canister inside the fender of my 944S2, and today the dealer parts counter called telling me they had received it. When I went to pick it up and flashed my new membership card. They made a copy of it and gave me a 20% discount!
Is this standard in European Porsche Clubs, or is Spain particularly generous with Porsche enthusiasts? The parts manager explained that there was a 10% discount given by the dealer, and another 10% that they got back internally from the Porsche Club. It really boils down to 4% off list price, because there's 16% VAT tax, but I'll take 4% off and no tax any day over list price plus tax!
At a 20% discount, I think I'll be buying even more parts at the dealer now.

Luis, trust me, I got that from the first post already, no need to keep rubbing it to my face
VAT is 22% in Finland. 2-0 for Spain... but hey, given the fact that we've got the worst wages compared to any European country, it's only right we compensate with the higher tax

I thought the European clubs might have a different arrangement with the dealers. That's why I insisted on the difference, not to rub it in your face .
Can you at least avoid the tax by ordering parts through the mail from aftermarket suppliers?

There's always going to be some taxes; if you order stuff from the US (or some other non-EU country), it's customs + VAT on top of that.
Within EU you pay the VAT into the country where you buy the stuff from, naturally. So it's possible to save a few %, but probably not worth the hassle...
