Default 87 944S defroster and A/C activation blows fuse

Hey guys, on my 87 44S, everytime I hit the defrost and A/C buttons on the module my A/C fuse blows. Anyone have this happen to them, any info appreciated. BTW, I tried replacing the control module that didn't fix it.

thanks!

I can't vouch for the defrost button but a bad AC relay diode will blow the AC fuse everytime.

As will the clutch on the compressor if it's bad. Too much current draw will blow the fuse.

...or a wiring short.

FWIW, the link will be the A/C, as the defroster runs the A/C.

Mine does the same thing.

I haven't really dug into it yet, but I'm thinking its the AC relay.

I'm going to try to get to it this weekend. I'll check in, and post what I find. (Might be a completely different problem on your car though...but anything helps.)

Ok, this was my #2 thing to check out.

These are from the "electrical clicking sound from glove box" post a few days ago, in this "944" section.

I don't know how to find the address for the thread....I'll bump it so it'll be on the 1st page again.

I say bad clutch. could be seized compressor...just know that it can go from bad to worse. The fuse does not always protect you. Next stop climate control unit meltdown...Just advance search using my name and compressor. Plenty of info, not just my two cents.

I had this problem and was able to fix it! It took a while to figure out though. I was able to use the system with the diode remove (it is behind the computer in the passager foot well spliced into a wire). But the true solution was on the Power Stearing Pump! There is a switch with two wires on the power stearing pump that has failed and shorted out. It is part of a circuit that tells the computer it adjust the idle if the a/c is running and the power stearing pump is under load. Use a multi meter to check the resistance between the terminals of the switch and body of the pump. If the resistance is zero, you have a short and the switch needs to be replaced! Who knew.
