I pulled a 15.7 in my 924S when it first started to run right. Then after that night I could only pull like 15.8's and slower. My suspension is so worn out so it just slams the rear end to ground because of the worn out shocks. It also has soft tranny mounts. I put some windshield urethane to fill the mounts and it stiffened it up quite a bit. They aren't made for dragging but its fun. My tranny never blew at the track but it did while I was leaving autozone. Big surprise there. After I swapped a new tranny in it was all good. I looked for a tranny with an LSD but the search came up short. The tranny I received was supposed to have LSD but it is either worn out or doesn't have one at all.

It's just reaction to green. Once he moves then the timers start.
My best so far with my s/c 83 is mid 13's @ 105ish 2.06 60'. This is at 5200 ft elevation.

I can put some pictures up later. Lost two teeth off the pinion and half of a third one. Ring gear had one or two teeth with some notches in them but was otherwise okay looking. Not that I'll be using it since I have a perfectly good one.
So now I'm going to combine my two transmissions into one good one. I'll be taking the LSD out of the welded-up bellhousing and putting it in the good bellhousing with the good 1-4 gears/syncros and the good ring/pinion but the bad 5th/R selector fork. I guess I'll figure out what to do with the 5th/R deal when I see what it looks like, but ideally I'll be able to keep the short 5th that has been sitting around unused in that transmission so I'll come out with an LSD, a short 5th, a good bellhousing, and all good syncros. I'll call it a mandated upgrade.
I haven't seen this said on here but a few experienced drag racers (not 944 owners obviously) that had seen their share of destroyed gears said that wheel hop is what kills transmissions. So if you're feeling that back end jumping up and down, put the clutch in and relax!

Ihave broken my fair share of 951 trannies drag racing luckily they're easy to rebuild. My best is 12.3 the time slip used to be in a post on here, it was several years ago.

im going to be doing something similar to blown944's setup but with my own customizations and will be hoping for at least 300 crank HP...that should get me in the low 13s as an estimate from his numbers (im also only about 800ft above sea level)

So I got to look at both of my transmissions today. The original one would SCREAM if you tried to use fifth gear and would not engage in R a lot of times. It also had a LOT of metal in the fluid every time I changed it. Well we opened it for the first time and this was because the bolt on the aft end of the output shaft that holds on 5th gear had backed off, rounded out, and beat against the inside of the gearc case. So nothing short of the case was holding the 5th on. Fortunately the gear looks largely unworn. It is slightly rounded on one side but the mesh area looks good; it's the short 5th gear so I want to keep it. So I'll probably just replace that bolt, switch the LSD into that transmission, and set all the painful backlash/shims stuff.
Lessons: drag racing bad
Not properly torquing bolt into output shaft worse.

About a month ago I went and drag raced a couple times. I got 16.6 first time with a .9 reaction time and then the second and last time I got a 15.9 with a .7 reaction and that was with the worst start of my life, I over revved quite a bit. I think I could have got a 15.5 with a good start and good reaction.
Reaction time only comes into play when you are bracket racing, or you are lined up with a car that is evenly matched, and only then will the reaction time cause you to win or lose the race. For example, 2 cars ran identical times of 15.5 at 85mph, however one guy had a .020 reaction time, and the other guy had a .050 reaction time, so the first guy crossed the traps .03 seconds faster. That's how the pro's win or lose based on reaction times.
