Default Lets talk megasquirt, ITB's and blowers. part 2

Well I am fairly new to the Porsche game but not mod game. After some reading I wanted to start a discussion on NA mods. I can't help but notice the sad amount of narrow minded people claiming NA=useless. I have my 1986 Porsche 944 and have plans for MS and either ITB or a blower.

Lets talk.

Small blower, FMU(or MS) and some 14s

or

Some Gixxer throttle bodies and a cut NA mani with MS?

Some questions, how are you MS guys hooking it up? What sensors are we keeping and replacing? What mods need to be done to the MS board? Anyone have any base maps for Map instead of MAF? I found Base maps for MAF from the microsquirt how to thread.

I want to leave spark as simple as can be. Distro firing the plugs. no edis.

Discuss....

944 throttle position sensor wont work, 951 one does work fine. 944 doesnt work because its just two switches. Stock coolant sensor works fine. Youll need an air temp sensor of course (open element is best). The VR sensors can be made to work. MS will work with the coil and distributor. Stock idle control valve works with some mods or a cheap add on board.

Mods depend entirely on what you want to do.

na=useless not because of the motor but because of the halfshafts and R&P that like to grenade themselves.

I think that depends on how you drive, their not made of chocolate and not that expensive to upgrade with used parts if they do fail.
Blowers have been done. Not heard of anybody using ITBs, could be interesting, I have built a microsquirt into a used Dme as per Justins guide but shortness of cash/back injury has put that on hold.

Ironically, the NA transaxle thing seems a little blown out of proportion. I found a forum where guys were mating the 944 transaxle (NA mostly) to an LT1, with the end goal of creating GT40 replica cars.

maybe its just that the NA is so weak but ive done all kinds of high rpm clutch drops and races and drive it pretty hard just about every day and its never missed a beat. i have 2 spare trannies just in case but my original one has never given me any problems.

If I go blower(which I might from a simplicity stand point) I will get a cheap eaton off Flebay and a FMU. No MS. I keep debating what I would rather do.

My current 944 was only supposed to be a flip car. I have some coin left in the budget to play with. I think once this one goes and I get another 944 it will do ITB's. But again, I have enough coin left for either or. I have a fear of becoming too attached to a ITB porsche and not being able to get rid of it lol.

I would go turbo. If you turbo a N/A block with high compression you will actually have less turbo lag. I am building one now on a 86 using a turbo from a dodge omni 2.2L with a slightly upgraded impeller/compressor housing. I used this same turbo on my 2.4L Toyota 22RE and get 5 psi of boost at 2200 rpm and 14 psi by 4500 rpm with 9.5 to 1 compression. I am using a TEC-III. I will be installing a MSD 6-BTM to control the timing and additional injectors to handle the fuel. I will switch to a MegaSquirt later.
