Anyone wanna buy a 924S? *pics*
I REALLY want to keep her around. she was my first Porsche. first DE car, first engine rebuild, pretty much the car that started the obsession. I then got my turbo a year and a half ago, and she's just been sitting, gathering dust. neglected. she deserves better....
So here goes:
VIN for if you want to run a carfax: WP0AA0929HN454090
She runs, very well. Gaurd's red 1987 924S. exterior about a 7 of 10 (some small dents, dings and scratches, paint glossy when polished), interior about a 4 of 10. seats torn, missing some interior bits, but comfortable enough to drive around. some bulbs out on the dash, and for some reason I can't determine, the rear defroster doesn't work. but other than that, everything works. Never been wrecked, but I did get it stuck in a ditch over the last blizzard that bent up the air dam a bit and chipped the paint off of it. Nose panel, headlight doors, and front bumper painted by me to get rid of stone dings. I did a pretty good job, if I do say so myself. Used PPG paint, none of that rattle can stuff. I am religious about my oil changes. Period. I use Mobil 1 15W50.
Chassis has 180,6xx miles, engine has 78,0xx miles. with engine build, came a clutch, new bearings, etc. Leaks a little oil, but nothing too bad. Porsche factory AC Delete kit installed. A/C **** and lines still in the car. Passed emissions just fine in the state of Colorado.
Suspension- Koni shocks on all corners. 968 shock tower mounts, lowering springs, 28mm front sway, 968 M030 rear sway. Phone dial wheels (2 sets) 15x7 with BF Goodrich G-force TA-K/D tires, 15x6 with snow tires.
Ski rack from Thule.
Car has seen snow, car has been smoked in, but no burn holes, no smoke smell, old Porsche smell is damn hard to overcome, and it smells like an old Porsche.
Needs right now: a couple interior bits.- A-pillar cover, passenger side. Headliner. I wanted to make a spec car, tore out the interior, then changed my mind ... The power steering pump is disconnected, but I have all the parts to install it, and probably will sometime soon. Timing belt tension is due in 9K miles, replacement due in 19k. water pump done about 40K miles ago. Rear brakes have about 8K miles left in em. fronts are essentially new. replaced 2 years ago, but haven't driven much since I brought home the turbo.
Stereo is an Alpine CD head unit with the KDA 420-i iPod connect. new(ish) speakers.
This car won Best 944 N/A at 944Fest 2005, has a Porsche certificate of Authenticity, I don't have many records at all past the rebuild. why I didn't keep em, I don't know. laziness perhaps?
I would trust this car in a heartbeat to take me across country. I've done MULTIPLE road trips in this car, and they were uneventful, except the one where I spun a bearing in Topeka resulting in my engine rebuild. Car has taken me to California twice, Montana, Mansfield Ohio, and Terre Haute, Indiana.
Asking $3,000.00 or best offer. Pics will come very soon. Just gotta shoot some.

oh i get it - late wheels on early suspension, because the fenders are narrower.
That's a sharp looking car, Geoff. There are times I miss my first 944 but overall I'm glad I let it go to someone who will focus on it more, so I can focus on my 968 more. Good luck!

If it that you feel bad that it is not getting use just strip it and race it. Stipped out with a cage that car will fo just fine in 944 spec in your area even as is with no additional suspension work. I figure with that you can have strong car with 4k more into it (2k safety + 2k suspension).
As for being street legal... the racer that came in first and second at Miller a couple weekends ago and set the track record at long 4.5 mile course did so in a street legal 944 spec car. In fact after the race he packed the car and drove it home towing small tire trailer back to Sedona Az some 550+ miles away.

Nice car. My second Porsche was -86 924S. I do have to admit that those US-specs sidemarkers and bumpers are not the prettiest ones for that car, though.
I was thinking of rebuilding that 924S to 3.0/8-valve engine, but bought a 951 instead. That engine combination added
with 951 M030 suspension and 968 M030 sways would have been murder on a racetrack.
924S IS quite lightweight already. When one takes off the steel doors and fenders and replaces them with plastic/glassfiber ones, it might save app. 200Kg's easy. Even when proper rollcage is inserted.
