Default Help! A/C button broke

After driving around today I pushed the A/C button to turn it off but it was stuck and when I finally got the button unstuck the button fell off and a spring and something else flew out and now my A/C doesn't turn on.

I found the spring, so theres two springs and it will toggle on and off but the A/C still doesn't turn on so it leads me to think that there was a small piece that came out too that actually turns the A/C on....

Does anyone know how to fix this?? Please help, I'm in Texas and driving around with no A/C means I have to shower every time I go somewhere! TIA

The snowflake switch/button can be purchased from the dealer. They had a separate part number on later model 944's and can be soldered into earlier units.

Mine broke last summer (1986 944 N/A) . A new switch is a good idea and , when you take the old switch out, the 5 or 6 terminals will need to be unsoldered. The new switch will require soldering to the circuit board. It isn't difficult but the only way I could get the old switch out was to bust up the plastic (of the switch) and leave the individual terminals.

p0wp0w, I'm in Houston as well 96 today are you kidding me, I think we are in for a long hot summer...and I started overheating today for the first time My switch popped off as well but it is just the plastic piece as long as it is pushed in it stays on. I think the one of the small clips is broken.

Let me know what you end up doing with your switch. Where are you located in Houston?

WHAM, I'm in Sugar Land but I'm only in town for a little. I usually live in Austin. I ended up just going to the dealership and getting a new switch for a ridiculous price. I didn't know what else to do though, even if the button was pushed in it wouldn't turn on =T. Waiting for the button as we speak but hopefully it will fix the problem...

Here's a pic of opened switch

As you can see in addition to those 2 springs, there's 2 small metal parts that shorts those pins. Use a magnet to find them.

This advice is a little late, but you can buy the switch from Zims and probably some of the other shops. Probably cheaper then the dealer.
