My 944 Got Rear-Ended
It's unbelievable how little attention some people pay to the road while they are driving. I was making a right out of my apartment complex and onto the main road when a girl comes barreling down on me from behind in her SUV and nearly collides with me before she stops just short of my bumper. I turned around and tried to get her to back up a little because this intersection is uphill, and I thought I might hit her when the car rolls back before I go. She didn't even look at me, so inched up slightly, when all of a sudden I feel *BOOM*. Now I'm half way in the intersection as traffic is directly at my door. Lucky for me, she backed up quickly enough that I was able to back up and out of harm's way.
So of course I was angry about this, but when I get out of my car, this girl offers me her name and e-mail address and tells she's in a hurry. When I ask her for her insurance information, she tells me, "I don't have it with me, my parents have it. I can e-mail it to you later, but I have to go." Needless to say I called the police.
Fortunately, she hit me high enough that my bumper looks fine. I think I will only need a new tail lamp assembly, and possibly the center body panel in the back where the license plate attaches. If you know any expensive body shops in Austin, please let me know. And if you read all of this, thanks. I will post pictures of the damage tomorrow, and try and get some feedback from everybody.

wow stupid people; I hate people riding my bumper so I never do it to anyone else unless it's on a freeway in the fast lane someone doing 55
PS: I think you mean "inexpensive shops"

did you get her insurance information? i suggest you slap her with a lawsuit in small claims court asap. that will wake her and her parents up. sue for the maximum amount you are allowed to sue for.
she will forward it to her insurance company and you will then get the adjuster out there pronto and get your check quicker.

I've heard that if the rear end isn't fixed correctly that you can get exhaust gas intrusion through the tail light assemblies (as opposed to the obvious hatch gasket). There may be more to the repair job than just going thru the motions of getting things looking right. This is a driver and passenger health and safety issue.
Anybody know the details on this?

Hey guys. Unfortunately, I don't have camera, so I'm waiting to borrow a buddy's to take some pics of the damage. As far as the insurance claim, it seems like I was able to track down her insurance company and file a claim with them. For now, I think things are looking ok. After cleaning out what was left of the tail light assembly, it seems as though her bumper impacted what looks like a frame rail. This would certainly explain why I felt so much force in the cockpit as she hit me, as well as the pain in my neck and shoulder. I haven't had a chance to visit a doctor, but I'm pretty sure I have the symptoms of a mild concussion, i.e. headache, confusion, dizziness.
But like some clarified above, I'd like to find some bodyshops to get some expensive estimates, so I can hopefully fix it cheaper and pocket some money. As far as exhaust leaking into the cabin, right now I have a big hole in place of a tail light, with only the hatch carpeting and a bit of insulation separating the outside air from the cabin and I don't notice any exhaust fumes. Perhaps this is because it's on the right side and the exhaust is on the left?
One final note that I found humorous out of all this, when the cop asked me for my driver's license, I accidently handed him my fake ID (I'm not 21 yet). When I reached for it back, he just laughed and said, "Oh, wrong ID? Don't worry about it." Just thought that was cool of him to give it back.
