Guru Racing Stage 2 Map kit install/pics
I know some of you have been interested in the stage 2 MAP kit from Guru racing, so I decided to share my experience with the kit. My setup before I got my MAP kit was using the stock air-box and airflow meter with an upgraded turbo. I modified the stock J-pipe to fit my bigger turbo. As you can see in the pic, this was a big restriction.
And after losing one turbo to the stock air-box, I wasn’t exactly comfortable with having it on my car with the new turbo for to long. So I ordered a MAP kit from guru racing. The quality of the kit is very good; they give you everything you need right down to the wire crimps. The installation is pretty easy; the only thing I had problems with was the j-pipe. But Danno and Travis assisted me through an email and I figured it out. The customer support of Guru racing is simply awesome. They really did everything they could to help me out. Travis even helped me with some unrelated problems. The first test drives were done on a damp day, which was a bad idea. I was having wheel spin in almost every gear, so I didn’t really get to see a big change in acceleration. But from the wheel spin, I knew I had a good bit of additional power. When I finally got to drive it on a dry day, I was impressed. My driveability was better (still need a new TPS though) The kit took 1000rpm from my spool up time, my turbo now hits hard at 3000rpm. With some final tuning it should hit hard a 2800rpm. Before it would hit at about 4000-4500rpm, mostly due to the big restriction and bad air fuel/ratio. And this is all at 14PSI of boost, I cant wait to see what it will do at 18and 20PSI when I get bigger injectors. I will put it on the dyno when I get the bigger injectors, because I know people want dyno charts on the stage 2 kits. So if you have an upgraded turbo, and your still running a stock airflow meter, I would defiantly upgrade to a MAP kit. I was not sorry.
Cheers to Danno and Travis for putting out a great product <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

You are messing with my head man!!
I have a SFR level 2 that I was going to use with my stock setup... now you have ruined everything!!
I can't put that stock stuff back!! @#^%$#@$%@
How much did you pay for the conversion??? (Jaime, thinking of ways he can justify this frigging expense... )
Thanks for the photos.
So pretty much nothing to it?? All bolt on? Are you running stock fuel pressure regulator or adjustable?
I have the SFR turbo and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator (nothing installed since I am still working on the engine...) and would like to know more of what is required/involved in doing this mod...

Jaime- The install is real easy. you tap into a few wires in the DME and KLR, tap into a vacuume line, and install the j-pipe. The kit comes with a 3bar fuel pressure regulator so thats what im using. since you all ready have an adjustable FPR, you can get credit for that. it would be a little bit over $1000. The price is a little different if you have a boost controller and a dual port wastegate. sorry for messing with your head, but you will thank me later
jason952- Thanks, you'll have to come by next time your in the upstate. you can hear my exhaust and check out the MAP kit.

sean- you might not be the right person to ask but maybe someone will answer or maybe you know the answer:
What makes the kit different when running a dual port wastegate and a boost controller? Is there just more stuff needed to make it work?
I just bought a Tial, and am buying a electronic boost controller next. I planned on running these with the GURU chips, then a little later (after some debt is eliminated) get the MAP kit, some bigger injectors and a small garrett.

SamGrant951- The difference in haveing a dual port wastegate and a boost controller is you MAP kit will be a bit cheaper and there will be less things to install. If you dont have these things, Guru Racing gives you wastegate shims and a boost maximizer so you can hold boost. So the install will be a bit easier, not more complicated.

Is there any interference between the air filter and the headlight mechanism ? IE does the air filter press down ontheheadlight mechanism and cause the headlight to raise slightly ?

OZ951- it did at first, but after a couple uses of the headlights, it crushed in the K&N airfilter a bit. So the headlight gap is normal now. Danno told me this would happen.
Ski- not sure of the exact name of the crimps, but there blue and they lock. maybe Danno or Travis could tell you what they are.

Hey looks good!
What is the low speed driveability like with the MAP ... any driveability problems? I noted someone on another thread from a competing company suggests the MAP is unstable at low speeds and part-throttle conditions and (of course) thier MAF system is superior. Just curious to your actual experience. Thanks!
