Default Porsches 2 Oxford Update

THE FOURTH ANNUAL PORSCHES 2 OXFORD

EVENT DATE: Saturday, July 26, 2008.
WEB SITE: http://www.porsches2oxford.com

A few people over the last week or two have asked me how things were shaping up for this year's event. Here's some information to everyone up to speed...

REGISTRATIONS
As of today May 22, 2007, we have 151 pre-registered cars for the July 26th event. Quite frankly we are blown away by the continued, loyal dedication of the attendees. At this time last year, we had 86 pre-registered cars on our way to an event-best 255 actual attendees (including no-shows + day-of registrations). So we're a full 40% ahead of the record pace set last year.

Given the ridiculous gas prices, it really is amazing how many people are hell-bent on getting to P2O one way or another. In the last two weeks alone, we've had two signups from Canada, one from Pennsylvania, one from Missouri, and one from West Virginia.

Much of the increased registrations can be attributed to more focused advertising and the great feature article on the March edition of Panorama.

If you have not pre-registered yet, I would suggest doing so at your earliest convenience. And, there are still plenty of places to stay overnight should you decide to drive in on Friday. Check the P2O site for details on accommodations.

To pre-register your car for $20, which include a t-shirt and poster and goodie bag, go here:

SPONSORS
Major sponsors have been finalized. Griot's Garage returns for their third year in a row, along with Beechmont Porsche out of Cincinnati. Our third major sponsor is Autobahn Extremist from Rocky River,OH (toward Cleveland). They are a great Porsche tuner shop that does everything from oil changes to building a track specific race car for you (they even warranty race engines!).

Taj Kreuzers Speedfest Charities returns for the second year as Trophy Sponsor for the Top-35 and specialty awards. Win a brick!

OFFICIAL POSTER
I pretty much get carte blanche on this one and decided to pay homage to the 944 and the great turnout of waterpumpers we get every year. Behind the bandshell on Main Street, it seems like its nothing but 944s!

PCA NATIONAL
PCA National President Prescott Kelly plans to attend again this year. He even registered a 912 for the event, so I'm not sure if he plans to drive it from Connecticut or not.

SUNDAY ROAD RALLY
Scenic Road Rallies LLC is once again organizing the Sunday road rally for all interested parties. The fun tour with friendly competitions travels through Ohio and Indiana and through much of Hueston Woods State Park. A separate fee is charged for the rally.

More information here: http://www.scenicroadrallies.com/dow...dRoadRally.pdf

NEXT YEAR
It's hard to imagine, but we're already planning for 2009. We're working hard on a couple important fronts that could boost attendance significantly:

1. The Porsche 968 registry has tentatively agreed to host their national get together at P2O next year. They routinely assemble over 100 cars so we're excited to have them be a part of P2O.

2. The Cincinnati region of the regional PCA is actively testing waters to bid on the Porsche Escape for 2009. The Escape is a 'mini Parade' so to speak and has oversight from PCA national. One of the points of interest for a proper bid is book-ending it with P2O so Escapees can spend a day in Oxford. This one is still on the drawing board however.

Chris,
Love the poster but then that is my 944, great choice! Sounds like another
great event for 2008. See everyone there!

Yaaaay! I have carte blanche in the design but I dont pick the final selection by myself. We usually mockup about 8-10 posters with varying shots. Its a pretty deliberate process and we look for shots that encompass the overall feel of the event: cars, people, surrounding buildings, brick streets. Then we just sort of vote on them until we reach a consensus. I only mocked up 2 with 911s this year, the rest were 356s, 914s, 944s. Only 1-2 928s showed up and my pics werent good enough to use. I think we're getting more Sharks this year.

There will be extras for sale at the event, so stock up and send them to your buddies.

Boost, you are always pumped. It wouldnt be the same without the local posse'.

I think I'll make it this year! We'll see who wants to come along with me, though...

I'm down. Maybe I'll crash the Indy caravan Sat morning on the east side.

The poster alone is worth the drive. Great Job Chris!

Thanks. Things are good. Ash will be coming this year and is pretty pumped about P2O.

The mirrors and handles are getting painted now and should be installed next week.

And Larry's car is blocking the view of my black S2 and green 914, I believe. If that's the case, the picture is from from the '06 event. Very nice!
