I'm also 6' and can sleep fairly well in the hatch of the 944 with the seats folded down. Can you sleep in the back of a miata?
Meh, just rent a larger car and a hotel room with the money you saved by owning a Miata.

Only in the U.S. can a 944 be considered junk !!!

If you look for junk cars you can find them in any brands, Jaguar, Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac.....not only 944's !!!! It's easier to find junk 911's or 914's because most vintage examples are / were rust buckets. Junk 944's are there for one reason: too many people with just enough money to maintain a mountain bike bought them and let them turn into "war zones" on wheels....And now because of these, the good ones have a ridiculous value on the U.S. market !

A rust bucket 911 of any year with more holes than metal is worth 10 times that of a running 944 with no rust here. A 914 with the same condition as a 944 fetches about 2 to 3 times a 944. Even the 924 in the 70s are in the same price range.

We are talking about the US, where Tom and I are and making comparisons with the miatas here. I have never seen a running miata for $300. I used to see over 1000 cars at auction every week so I get a decent idea about price of cars.

My track car was going to be either a 944 or a Miata. The 944 won because (1) I had some financial wiggle room (I can afford to fix it for now!), (2) I liked the ability to load track tires and luggage in the back and drive to the track, and (3) with a hardtop, I could do DEs without installing a roll bar. I also had some trouble fitting in a Miata.

But if you fit in the Miata, it's a fantastic car, and much cheaper to track than the '44. Of course the '44 is much cheaper to track than any other Porsche.

Since scrap steel is $200 a ton and our car weighs 1 1/2 tons, I bought them for less than what I get paid for SCRAP STEEL so irrefutably yes the 944 IS at the price of junk.

The last 914 I bought was for $200 running about 10 years ago. The current 914 I have sitting in the trailer I bought last week cost me $850 with $600 back registration fees and running condition unknown. Yes the 914 has been replaced. With the price of VW bugs and even jettas higher than a 944, I think a 944 is a poor man's VW.

$3000 in 2 years of use comes out to $1500 a year last time I checked.

that is only true for US market. check mobile.de for prices in germany or http://www.avto.net/2004/index.asp

here a decent 944 cost 1/2 or 2/3 the price of a perfect condition 964.

I just looked up cars on that site and a 944S in pretty good condition is for sale at 15,000 euros, which is somewhere around $23000.

To reiterate my comment, Tom and I were refering to facts in the US. If you want to ship em to Germany, I am more than willing to sell you a few $300 944s. BTW, how much is a rust free 914 in germany? Oh wait, they don't exist over there without rust. The original Poor Man's Porsche 914 especially the 914/6 on ebay goes for a good amount more than a 944 in Europe. http://motors.search.ebay.com/porsch...40QQsacatZ6001

This one in Oregon recently sold for more than $15,000 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsc...QQcmdZViewItem Its a run of the mill 2.0L 4 cylinder made in 1975.

A 40 ft container would be good for more than 2. If you stack it right, you can definitely get 4.

Well, I understand about the college situation. I got mine when I was in college also and did not have much money either. Turns out my girlfriend now wife told me I could not get a CBR bike so I ended up getting a 944 at the time.
Just like college this car for me has been an education. Good luck and sorry to see you go.

To bad about your 944 Stein, I'm sure you'll get another one some day if you want to.

Legoland, I see you have given up on your petition to ban non-technical threads?

Its very technical to figure out how many 944s can fit into a 40 foot container. If you read the whole thread about the non tech topic, I stated my hate for bashers including people who bash miatas just because someone wants to get rid of a 944 to get it. Who cares whether someone else like the miata? Does the author of this thread ask what anyone thinks about the miata ANYWHERE? Do I care about someone's mini ***** complex causing phobia of owning certain cars? Some people feel threatened just because another person wants a miata over a 944. Lets bash the 944 for a change and be technical about how it really sucks from someone who is qualified to and has 10 currently in his yard.

no, it is a pretty great world. for say 7k you can get an awesome low mileage 944, a car that was once considered the best of the best. for the same money you can get a phenomenal roadster, a roadster that redefined the world's standard of what a sports car should be.

it is a beautiful thing.

now if only some of the posters on this forum were a little more mature, and kept there schmuckie bigoted comments out of a car forum the world would be a much better place.

I had a miata and am hetero, BB has one and is hetero, i think at least two others in this tread had or have miatas and are hetero. That's at least four hetero miata owners.

Now arseholes with the gay comments, start listing the non hetero miata owners you personally know.

Put up or STFU!

And, for the record, I lived in the West Village for a number of YEARS, I graduated NYU, I know a lot of people with preferences different than mine, and not one of them had a miata.
