40 MPG in the 951; aka desperate times call for desperate measures
Wife threatened to pull plug on the Porsche. 93 octane at almost $4.00 a gallon combined with 104+additive and she had a fit 3 weeks ago. The 951 was becoming too expensive to drive everyday. Said if I didn't improve the situation it had to go.
Got to admit I pilfered the idea from Nascar. On the Sunday broadcast DW said that the teams put tape on the nose of the Chevy's to make them "go faster and get better gas mileage." I figured that desperate times called for desperate measures and took matters into my own hands.
I'm happy to report that my first 2 tanks with the below tape job have netted me 37.6 mpg and 38.002 mpg respectively. Note that I did drive rather conservatively.
Drawbacks are of course aesthetics, the fact that the windshield wipers no longer are usable (but RainEx covers that problem), headlights aren't operable (most of my driving is during the day), I have to use the window to get in the car, and I use more tape every time I fill her up. At a almost 15% savings in fuel costs I can suffer with the odd looks and a couple extra pieces of tape each day. One flew off the grill today while I was on the Causeway. Lady behind me flipped me off, LOL.
I hope this helps you guys fight the big Oil Companies by getting better gas mileage. I'm open to suggestions on how to improve my mileage performance. On with the pictures:

Why spend the money on the 104 additive? It's highly overpriced, and doesn't do anything that it offers. You can buy toluene at Home Depot or Lowes, and get more for your money.
Generally, when an additive claims to raise your octane by 4 points, it means just that:
You put 91 octane in, added your 4 point booster, and you now have
91.4 octane, if even that high.

I'm thinking about taking off the side mirrors and door handles (don't need those anymore since I hop in the car Bo Duke style). Probably will remove the splitter and rear tail too along with the interior.
How much tape do you think I can run over the grill without overheating the car?

get some 6" wide boxster rims and really narrow tires too...lower your rolling resistance!
Maybe a really hard compound tire?? who needs to corner afterall !

cover your porsche in tape to save gas???? to save a couple bucks????

why would you buy a 951 or any nice car when you can't afford gas..... no offense.
sure gas is expensive but if I wanted to save money on gas I'd get like pontiac firefly.
