I read the first few posts and got distracted with the kids in the tub and the wife saying, get the hell off rennlist for 10 minutes would you!? ... but the whole time I'm like... jeez... money isn't that damned important -- I'd rather not eat lunch and drive the car to work than run around with masking tape on it... ROFL good one!

Joke's gonna be on you when you take all that masking tape off on April 2 and find all kinds of icky tape residue left on to ruin that otherwise fantastic paint job.

Then all the suckas who got FISHED IN will have the last laugh.

I actually did something to increase my MPG by deleting the short 5th gear in the turbo tranny and replacing it with a tall 5th n/a gear set. I think thats probably the only way a 951 will come even close to 30 mpg.

How short is the 5th gear on a 951? What is the engine at at highway speed?

The US n/a 944 has the tall 5th gear set 37:27 (0.7297) with a final drive ratio 9:35 (3.8889). The 951 has the short 5th gear set 35:29 (0.829) with a final drive ratio 8:27 (3.375). By mating the higher 5th and the higher final drive ratio of the 951, you get a real overdrive. I have not put the trans in the car to find out how many rpms it will drop at 65 mph.

LOL, came off fine. You see some of us have the ability to think ahead and take precautions before we execute the plan.

Actually, I got 28mpg from Knoxville to St Louis a few years ago- 500 mile trip in 5.5hrs- that's the best mileage I've ever had. When my car was running (well), I averaged ~23mpg, all around- good, for how I drive.

A taller 5th's a great idea. Most here want the shorter FD of an S2, to aid acceleration (hurts mileage). I think the 951 is geared very nicely for anywhere up to ~350rwhp, but 5th is a touch short. .72 5th leaves a little hole b/t 4th & 5th, since 4th redlines 134mph & 5th would then be ~193mph w/stock RD tire. This means you'll be turning ~2200rpms @ ~66mph.

I want an S2 5th (.778)- redlines ~180mph (stock is 167mph)- nice compromise IMO.

Legoland- Was it difficult to change out 5th gear? I've been wanting to do that for a really LONG time...

I had a Pcar cruise a week and a half ago and just filled up yesterday, even with the spirited driving endured on the cruise, I still got 25 mpg. Much better then the 14-15 mpg on the F150 no matter if it's around town or the interstates.

I found this graph I think you guys will like. It's actually for tractor trailers (note the coeficient of drag). Anyhow, you can see how reducing your speed (especially at high speeds) can make a big difference.

It would be interesting to drive 5 MPH slower for an entire week and see what kind of numbers you come up with.

It would be badass if someone could make one of those for our cars.
Our Cdrag is .33 isn't it? or .36 IIRC?
