Your Ideas (tuner 944?)
I was thinking of tuner companies like RUF, Gambella, Dinan etc. Its too bad that more of these companies didn't get so involved in the industry until recently (past decade or so). What do you think would have happened if RUF or the likes got a hold of a 944? Or a 951? Maybe two different models for different demographics.
I speculate that motor swaps would have been out of the question unless you look at the 928. If in fact there was a 928 motor swapped in, then it would probably have higher compression, with all the IHE work you'd need and lots of suspension to both compensate for, and control effectively, the added weight of the motor. I also think the car would have a similar top speed as an 928S4 (around 170ish) or maybe a little higher, due to restrictions. But who knows? Top speed wouldn't have been the biggest concern with a car like that. Getting there would...
The suspension, being up to the task of controlling a car like this would be rather stiff on the road, but be adjustable and offer a small range between comfort and spirited feel. The brakes would probably be nice fat chunky pieces with vented rotors and nice sports pads. Wheels would probably be polished aluminum shod with nice summer tires (for the day). The body would have different front and rear fascias with beefier rockers to give the car a boost in the aesthetics and performance dept, although maybe not be as aggressive as some tuner (real "tuner" companies, not garage mechanics) cars today.
If the 4cyl was maintained as the power plant, then I would see a larger turbo fitted to a 3 liter motor with all the bells and whistles to make hefty power numbers, both up high and down low. Similar looks and suspension/brakes, but clearly different if offered along side a V8 model.
These would be expensive Porsches, but well worth the cost of having a limited production model, separating the owner from the rest... Oh. And commercials of said cars smashing on other brand sports cars would be a must.
I'm just ADD like this, and I like thinking up exciting ideas. So what's your idea?

There have been plenty of people "tuning" these cars for many years. They arent big name companies like RUF, but some seriously big private shops that put out some serious cars, as well as some of the smaller indy shops that did the same. Hell, calloway even built turbo 944s.
Electrodyne is right down the street from me, and up until a few years ago they still had a 935 in the showroomHere in the DC area we have lots of shops that build fast porsches. Anything from turbo 968s, to 914s with motor swaps, and the usual 911s.

full coilover suspension out of the box, probably taking advantage of the platform balance and improving it.
itd be light as hell and would probably be pushing the limits of what the 944 block can do, 3.2L turbo prolly.
