Default OPRV Question

I took this apart almost two years ago so I frankly cannot recall how the OPRV goes back into the oil cooler. Here are the parts that I had labeled back then.

I went though the PET and I found that it has two different sets of seal rings labeled 43 and 43a. The part numbers were 999 707 145 40 / 999 707 144 40 and 999 707 146 40 / 999 707 144 40 respectively. I guess I can order both, but I'd rather have the correct ones. Do these seals fit on both sides of the valve? The seal ring appears to be a standard 20 x 24 crush ring.

I don't even know if I have a once piece valve because there are no actual descriptions of what a three-piece vs. a one piece looks like, only references. I found an image the other day that looked like mine and it was labeled one-piece.

So, what seal rings do I need and how does this thing go back together? According to what people have said I can just use the housing to line it up if it is a one-piece. I know where it is assembled into the oil cooler housing, I just don't know how it goes back together.

That is a once piece OPRV...just...disassembled. When I had my OPRV out I only replaced the o-ring on the end. The second o-ring is internal and I did not take it apart. All I did was bolt the housing to the block, thread the OPRV in and slowly torque the bolts down while checking to make sure that it wasn't binding.

Sorry I can't help on re-assembly!

I have the lower one, but yours looks like the upper. Here they are assembled.

That is the picture I saw ealier. So, I take it the spring fits between the valve and the threaded bolt that threads into the oil cooler?

PM sent about your injectors btw.

There's the internal O-ring on the outer part of the valve. That one just pushes up into the hex-head cap just like you have it laid out. Be sure and lube it well so the seal doesn't roll down when pressed back together. It can only travel so far anyway. The lower seal near the relief holes is always green, the internal O-ring can be black or green. Since yours is a 86 3-piece retrofit OPRV you want:
999 707 146 40 (upper)
999 707 145 40 (lower)
If you need the assembled dimension of the 86 OPRV I have one out and can measure it.

Alright we are back on this piece of garbage again. We can't seem to find the roll pin that we are assuming holds this thing together. Would anybody mind spending the time to explain how this thing goes back together over the phone?

I am considering just buying another valve because I have so much money in this project already. I don't want to have a serious oil pressure problem, particularly during a track day which is the only thing this car is going to be used for.

OK, I think I have the updated 1-piece retrofit valve which is part number 944 107 035 11 but it is disassembled. All of the pieces shown in my original photo are exactly what we have. I have the valve body, the piston, the spring, the threaded oil cooler housing piece, on used o-ring and that is it. Clearly this can be assembled because there is a serviceable o-ring in there.

What I need help on is how to put it back together. The cost of another one is $274 and if I have somebody help me put this one back together I can save that money. We do not know how the oil cooler housing threaded piece attaches and stays onto the body of the valve that has the piston and the spring in it.

If somebody would please help us figure this out it would save me a lot of money. I really don't want to have to buy the exact same thing I already have. I sent Kuhl a PM but he hasn't been on today.

Big thanks to Steve for helping me out. Looks like this one might be no good because it came apart while I was taking the engine apart.
