That and they rubbed the engine with cheetah blood.

Has to be.

Porsche claimed a top speed of 130, Autocar tested it at 137, and both of those would likely of been ideal conditions with a tight running car.

I even find the 137 a bit overly optimistic, and trust Porsche's judgment on this.

Updated ground effects, and 75 more horsepower and the 951 only does ~152 ish.

or used a flux capacitor instead of the 2.5L engine.

My first 944 a 1983 model could achieve 125mph in straight line.

they could have lowered the car, even an inch or so is pretty significant in terms of aerodynamics. when the veyron was being designed, using the suspension they originally wanted to use the car only (lol) hit like 230. in order to get to 250+ they set up the car so that a topspeed run lowered the car like an inch and a half.

same reason the brabus sl600 sits about 3/4" lower at full speed (~220 mph) than stock.

My '89 went 132 mph and then it just ran out of hp. The engine had plenty of revs left but no more power to overcome the wind resistance. It got to top speed much quicker than I thought it would although the last few mph was a bit of a struggle.

I was escaping the cops the other day, and in the few km chase average speed on cop's camera was 210kmh. ( I was driving from 180 to 240kmh according to speedo..) that was quite a joyride :>
now if only I had turbo..

On track my 87 ran indicated 120 at redline in 4th... too bad the TraqMate confirms that to only be 104mph in real life. If you had a long downhill, you might make 130... but you ain't gonna pull to that on a long 5th gear on the flats. Just not enough horsies.

yeah coming back from the 24 at daytona the other week on friday night at about 2 a.m. after dinner with Polizei 144 & co i pegged it at 120 or so. the car wouldn't go a lick faster, as far as i could tell. then again, i'm not so sure at that speed. there's no reason you should be looking anywhere but the road when you're covering 2 miles a minute.

sunday morning i was crossing a long stretch that's divided, so the only way to get nailed is if you run past a cop ahead. i maybe tagged 125 before i decided it really wouldn't pick up any more.

stop driving your cars 130 on the roads, you jerks. what kind of dick does that?

oh, and not to be an ***, but i have no idea how any of you got later cars up to 140, especially if they have the taller 5th gear. i really don't think it's possible, short of having an ls motor and not telling anyone.

That's a reasonable number.

175mph? in a 2.5liter n/a? No freakin' way. Not even with a truck infront to push all the wind away. Maybe, just maybe with some wild custom gears AND a truck, and a mightly long downhill, and some fairy dust. But 175 out of a normal 2.5 n/a -- impossible.

Me? I've never topped it out, even on the track. I've hit over 120, since per my manual, the top of 4th is 120, and I've bounced off the rev limiter halfway down the back straight at Watkins Glen... So I was probably approaching 130 in the breaking zone before the Inner Loop (aka the Bus Stop).

didnt say it was 175 with the 2.5 motor, i said it was 175 with an NA tranny with stock size tires. im sure the tranny could go higher than that, but at 6400RPM (about where the NA usually redlines) the NA tranny with the 3.889 F/D in 5th with 215/60/15 tires (or similar) should be doing about 175.

maybe you could put a big horse motor on the front and make that happen. with the 944s aerodynamics to get to 175mph on that tranny and tires youd need about 300 peak HP.
