928 V8 in 944

What would be the reason to go to such trouble to keep a Porsche motor for a conversion?
The only one I can think of would be for the name. The LSx motors are light, powerful, economical, and reliable. The only conceivable negative would be that it doesn't have "Porsche" stamped on it. That makes zero sense to me because these cars are anything but status symbols. The notion that it is less of a Porsche with a Chevy motor is crazy. I mean c'mon, we're talking about a 944 not a Carrera Gt.

I have to agree. There is no reason to use a 928 engine over a SBC other than the name. There is every reason to use the SBC over the 928 engine other than the name.
I once saw a Pontiac Fiero with a Lamborghini Diablo body kit. It wasn't a cheap crappy kit, it was nice, and the owner was good with details. He actually gave it a good suspension, and dropped in the closest thing he could find to a lambo v12 - a bmw v12. Then he cut 2 plates of metal into a nice "Lamborghini" script and welded them to the valve covers. It looked like a real Lambo engine to me.
