Default 928 V8 in 944

I have thought of swapping in a V8 in my 951 when the motor goes. I have seen the renegade LS series swaps but a 928 V8 would be fun.
the four cam model is probably too wide but the SOHC model would probably fit. Is the bellhousing bolt pattern the same? or does anyone know of it has been done.

thanks
Steve

I'm not sure what but a few things make it very hard. I seen some pictures of one with a 928 engine swap but I think they had to widen the entire car(?)

OK, had to speak up here.

Fact is it will not fit unless you spend mucho $'s building a custom frame. The 928 engine is a 90deg V8, unlike the LS1, so there is just no room.

I didn't ask for Smart a$$ remark, I asked a very SIMPLE question, MR or MS. FRPorscheman.

Fabcar thank you, The pictures you show are of a 4 cam engine. It does appear too wide. And even though the SBC GEN1 or 90 V8, and they fit, I assume that the SOHC Porsche 928 engines won't fit either most likely due to the hight of the cylinder heads??

thank you for your civilized response.

Kind regards
Steve

It seems like a v8 conversion question pops up about 2 or 3 times a week so it gets old after a while for the regulars here. If you feel others being impatient, its not directed towards you specifically. The search feature will yield you all the information you every want to know about v8 conversions as just about every angle has been covered multiple times previously.

Should fit theortically, but are we seriously discusing spending somewhat in the region of $20-30k on a twenty year old car, worth less than $10k. I wish anyone the best of luck and admire their determination if they have the money to throw away and skills to succeed, but you have to ask the question, why?

Seriously, its nothing personal- you need a good sense of humor on this site. Once you're around a while, you might find yourself doing the same thing. I've conversed enough with Arash (FRporscheman) to know that he's pretty good natured, and if he throws a barb your way, its in fun. So take a deep breath and reeeeeeeeeeeeelaaaaaaaaaaaaxxxxxxxxxxx.

Two things, first, out of interest (what else!?) - has anyone seen the Kelly Moss car in action, or finished? The pics shown have been on the website forever, with the mockup engine etc...

And secondly re: the cayenne v8, would the point not be to give the engine a prettier home?

Seriously tho, it would be a better unit to build a GTR along the lines of the KMR car (IMHO) - ATAG seem quite proud of the engines they build for the Cayenne... (http://www.rheinmetall.de/index.php?lang=3&fid=1499)

55kg final weight for the upper and lower sections seems quite reasonable..

And with all the idiots driving cayennes like they own the road, there's got to be a healthy supply of wreckers

Anyhow, my two cents and all.

Did you even try searching before posting a question that has been beat to death?

Here's what you do. Buy a 944. Buy a 928 with a good drivetrain. Fix up the 928. Discard the 944.

Now you have a V8 Porsche that will work as intended and may even have resale value!

Yes, this is smart ***, but with a point. Why go through all that effort to make a V8 944 when Porsche already did that for you? Especially since you'll basically buy that V8 car in order to make another one?

PS: I thought the LS1 was a 90 degree engine. Smaller due to pushrod configuration, but still 90 degrees, no?
