How to mount a camera?

I was wondering guys, as I plan on start taking my 944 to AutoX and eventually turning it into a Spec racer, I'd like to mount a camera in it. I was figuring mounting it on the dashboard, so it would have the best view of things. Has anyone else done this, and could suggest how to go about it? Cause I don't think just randomly drilling holes in my dashboard would be the best idea.

The higher the better - roof mount is ideal for POV (see my vids on my website)... dash will have limited view of the road...

You can buy rollbar mounting brackets.
www.PegasusAutoRacing.com has them. They even have a tether to secure the camera if it comes off.

Well my car probably won't get a roll bar any time soon. Right now it's mostly for show off material I guess. Looks like I'll just have to trick a friend into riding with me on AutoX day.

I made this...
Litle bracket is bolted on to the back of the rear seat, and then the camera mount is connected to the bracket. Looks good, when I take the cameramount of then the bracket is hard to see... stainless steel is the same color of my interior

I just use a bunch of bungee cords to strap my tripod into the back seat on the passenger side; one leg on the seat, two on the floor, and about 6 bungee cords holding everything down. It works suprisingly well; and most tech inspectors are OK with it.
You might want to get a wide angle lens (0.5x zoom) - that makes a big difference. Idealy, I can get from the center of the steering wheel all the way to the passenger A-pillar into the shot.
