I'm new to the forum and the PCA. I never have gotten to meet a Porsche owner in south jersey yet. Im glad to finally find people with the same interest. Ive owned my Porsche '87 944 N/A for 7 years and a '71 914 for 5yrs. I do as much work on my own as i can. Also I am graduation Drexel University in march w/ a BA in Finance and Marketing if anyone knows of any jobs. My biggest challange right now is if i should scrap my 944 or not. Cylinders 1 and 4 are scratched. Cylinder 4 is also out of round beyond tolerance. I got someones project car which wasnt put together right. It also has turbo pistons. Worth a rebuild or just get a new car?

Welcome-

There is a wealth of knowledge on these forums. Some of the members have literally seen it all and done it all with these cars, so you've come to the right place. As for the engine, I'm not an engine expert, but you might look into a used block. I know that the alusil block cannot be machined with conventional methods, but there are others who know much more than I about that.

Good luck!

The 944 looks to be in good shape. I'd consider repairing it if you have the time, space, and money. Welcome to Rennlist!

Howdy

Welcome to Rennlist from another NJ member! As far as your car, depends on alot of factors....is the rest of the car in great shape? If it is and you're going to do the work yourself, it's probably not a bad candidate for a transplant.

As far as the job thing....www.conticorp.com. Feel free to use my name.

We have a regional office in Langhorne and the Regional Manager is a Drexel grad...

best

just like luis said; 944 looks nice, so it's worth repairing imo.

There are fewer and fewer nice looking NAs out there. If it is straight and clean I'd fix the motor. Lots of donor parts available.

I love the color of your 914 btw!

Here are the body problems. I found a hose hanging under my door dont know where that goes. Also the rear hatch glass is seperating from the seal is this a big problem? And somebody hit my bumper again.... Hoping to start work on the 914 over summer.

you got alot of work in front of you buddy. I would be tempted to part that car out and buy another one, with the money you make from parting you can put together a gorgeous car.

Yeah the first owner blew up the car, the second owner put it together with a mix of turbo and N/A parts... results are maximum 9.5:1 compression. The second owner bought a new block with supposedly 60k miles on it but with a cylinder out of round its probobly had 160k. The head and needs machining. I got it with the block and cam all put together. So far ive got a new steering rack, New tail light, all of the hoses some, 3 ignition coils, headers have been welded up twice, and new windshield. It has 186k miles and would provide me with a chance to learn to weld.

1. is it worth fixing it up the rest of the way?
2. where does this hose under the driverside door go? (See above pic)
3. I have a gap in the glass hatch should i be worried that it will break soon (See above pic)

If you want to learn how to do body work, but know you'll never get out of it what you put in.

That hose goes right where it is, but there is a post that used to have a fastener on it to keep it from dangling. You could probably fix it w/ a zip tie or something. Not a big deal.

There is a write up at pelican parts about repairing that- it can be done on a Saturday.
