... what's on your list?
IMHO the 944 is the best bang for the buck for a fun street car in the $3500-$5000 price range, and I bet most of you agree! This year I want to flip my 944 for something in the $10K range, and there seem to be more interesting cars that fit the bill in that price range. I like cars that have personality, vibe, etc., and the ones I'm considering so far are 951, 944S2, 968, early Boxster, Mustang Cobra, BMWs. I'm interested in hearing what cars you folks have on your list in this price range. I could use some enlightenment and guidance!

get a Q45 with the 4.5L engine. i have one and its ridiculous powerful (300something HP), comfortable as a sofa but can handle and do powerslides if you want it to.
we just put new shocks on and have had a strut bar on it for a while and it drives like a dream, its a '96 model with about 125k on the clock and only leaks a little bit of oil. runs strong and theyre way cheap.

I would stay away from early Boxsters. They're not significantly faster than a 944, and there are known engine casting/RMS problems. Not to mention they're not designed with a home mechanic in mind.
You live in Mass, check out the Factory Five Cobra (company is based out of Wareham). For $12k and a decent Mustang donor car, you have something pretty unique.

B5 S4 is a fun car... it is a 2.7 twin turbo V6. But the maintenance would be horrible on a 10K version. The I5 turbo was the in the original S4 & S6, the C4.
I'd also vote for a 951 with a couple grand of mods.

94 - 96 M3 ........ Great car , good reliability , and good quality with the exception of the interior ...... A little heavy like the S4 , but soooo fun to drive with the throttle ..........

Best $2k or under car? Toyota Paseo. I beat up that car ever day for 5 years. Everyday...bonced of rev limiter. Everyday dumped the clutch at 6 grand. Its final moments were drag racing a Dodge Dorrango. I won. Later that day, I put the pistons through the block. 245K on the car. It was a blast to drive. Not fast but its fun to drive a car that you don't care about and you hope blows up. It was a riot.
