Default Join the NASA 944 Spec./ PCA SP-1 racing class

Please see our official website for the NASA National 944 Spec Class at www.944spec.org for tons of info on our rules, our cars, our drivers.
This is the best 944/924S racing class in the country and we want you to join us!

We have a great group of people all accross the USA and Canada who all share the same vision of close, exciting racing in equally prepared PORSCHE 944's. We know we're building something good. From the original group in the Phoenix area, we've spread to SoCal and then to NorCal, the Rocky Mountains, and now the Mid-West and Canada. Look for 944 spec regions popping up in Texas and other parts of the country soon.

We have many enthusiastic, helpful drivers who monitor this forum and if you post a question about the class, I'm sure you'll find a quick response or two.

944 Spec......you might be outdriven, but you'll never be outspent! We all know speed secrets about the 944's. You're welcome to implement them elsewhere, but NOT IN THIS CLASS! We want to see how well you can drive your 944!
CHEERS!

40 plus cars at Miller and still 6 months to go ! Rocky Mountain Region of NASA will have 20+ 944-spec cars by this summer.

The KCWS is looking hard at getting a couple of cars running for some events in '08 and possibly doing more than that in '09. I'm pretty excited about this.

I won the 2006 Az championship with an open diff. I hold the track record at 1 track and have held the track record at another track also with an open diff. In 2007 was a tough year for me, but it was not the lack of LSD that did it. My set-up went off and never seemed to get it dialed in right. Plus I had good strong competition. In the last two races of the year I lead both races for a long time. I got second to a LSD car in 90 min enduro losing by 1/2 a car length and was locked in for 2nd about 2 second back on sprint race on the next when when 3 corners from the end my clutch broke and DNF'ed. That was 5 good years with that clutch so I can't complain. Still even with NO LSD I can do very very well. I would love to have one, but still would rather spend money on showing up and racing than putting one in.

Scott,
You just let us know what we can do to help get your 944 spec group started. We'll do it. We want to share the fun of this cheap class. We know the rules we were given aren't perfect, but we're trying hard to keep the cars as equal as possible and for the least amount of money so that more guys can afford to join the fun!
I'm tellin' ya.......in over 20 years of racing Porsches, the 944 spec class is the best thing I've ever come across.
...and I've still never actually raced in a 944 with an LSD. It would be nice. It makes the car much easier to drive.....but I didn't want that.

BTW, we are looking HARD for more racers here in the PacNW. My car is ready here in Portland and there are at least 6 new cars just built in Seattle, bringing the total to over a dozen. These cars are legal for NASA and SCCA IT racing... we have just about enough to get our own class if we can get decent turnouts.

Anyone thinking about it should get off the fence and buy a cheap car. There are tons of decent donors around here right now. The guys are all super friendly with sharing information, hard labor, and setups.

Right, Eric.
And as metioned in the title of the thread, the 944 spec cars are totally compatible with PCA Club Racing's SP-1 class. We brought the rules to PCA and made it that way so that you could race your 944 spec car anywhere in the US.

Scott and I are going to build up some 944 spec cars this year and I'm at least hoping to make it out to one spec race (latter half of the year). I'm going to hold a get together of those close in the KC area about the potential for starting a region.

Yeah, Joel's the mastermind of the KCWS effort, he deserves the credit for getting us involved. I'm just the fool with all the cars!

I've got to get my car wired up, and put a cage in it, and then I should be good to go.

Joel and Scott,
Please keep in mind that your 944's don't have to be fully spec'd out to run in the spec class. For example, I ran with half a spec suspension for most of 2003! I had the safety gear done and passed tech and just started driving in the class. I had to start showing the 944 spec flag to everyone in SoCal. My first event, I ran by myself, but I got 944 spec on the map. One year later we had 11 cars racing!

Tim, Joe, Chuck and Eric are a good group of folks. Joe talked me through a t-bar index; despite the time difference, he was always willing to help a complete stranger. Tim looked over my car, showed me what I needed to fix (including my upsidedown rad!) and sent me the parts I needed for next to nothing. Chuck and Eric seem like equally cool people.

I wouldn't think twice about joining the club--those interested or on the fence about it. The track and even Auto-X has been the best thing I've done in years, aside from my wife

Thanks Chris !
I second the vote on get the safety gear. The NASA Midwest region will pretty much pay (in sponsorship money) your entry fee, but only if you race. In Rocky Mountain Region we paid $140 per day per driver in 2007 1st or last same payout .
