Quick question for y'all about the rear caster mounts? What's allowed? Do you have to use the stock mount or can you update to the 968 M030? I had to steal the ones off my '83 for another car, and am getting ready to get the replacements for it.

Regards,

Regards,
Any non metallic mount is legal. For steel arm cars most use weltmeister reds.
Here is picture.

The 968 units only fit on aluminum arm cars and are legal.

Yeah, but either way, you'll get good performance and durability.

Racing in 944-Spec is the most fun I've ever had, and we really have a great group of people involved in it.

Here is a preview of the Rocky Mountain region's 2007 season highlights video... http://www.rm944.com/events/2007%20Highlights.wmv

Keep in mind that this is a compilation of the "crowd pleaser" moments over the whole season, including practice sessions, so it's not like each race is filled with chaos or anything. We have lots of fun within a reasonable budget and a relatively safe environment.

I'm still working on the extended version for the banquet... it will have more video, some pictures, and more stuff to laugh at.

Oh ****, alright, Tim....you lured me in from the other threads.

I looked over the rules...but have some questions. What exactly do I need to do to my currently street legal DE car?

I have Konis all around, about to add in 30 mm T bars and 425# springs. About the replace the bushings in the rear with the black polygraphing and delrin for the banana arms. No mods to the engine expect the Lindsey oil pick up mod. Dumped the a/c and compressor and cut a hole to mount a 951 oil cooler. Fire extinguisher. I'm still legal I think.

Inside are cheapo Corbeau Forzas, G-force 6 point harnesses and Redline man's rollbar.

I'm trying to sort through both the 944Spec rules and the NASA CCR. What do I need to do to race it?
- upgrade to cage
- window net
- What about the seat? Seatback brace?
- battery cutoff
- firesuit
- Hans
- what else?

For the car youll need to have a cage installed. Piper Motorsports in Sterling is a great shop to deal with. Its not exactly cheap, but they do fantastic work. You will need to have a window net, and also a right side net (or you can replace yours seats with a halo seat.) If your seat is not FIA homologated youll need a seat back brace (fab shop can do this when the cage gets done, or I could give you the IO port brace thats collecting dust in my garage) You will need the cutoff switch, and a fire system (extinguisher is fine) Depending ont he date of your harnesses you may need to get new ones.

For the driver, youll need a Nomex suit. OG racing has SFI 3.2/5 suits starting around $200. Youll also need nomex socks, gloves, and shoes. With a 3.2/5 suit underwear is not required, but it will provide more burn protection. Im assuming your helmet is current, but as of June you will need a H&N restraint. HANS will be releaseing a new sport model for $600 or $700 later this month.

I DESPERATELY want to get into Spec 944 racing. I love my current 944, and have been sorely tempted to not sell it and just turn it into a race car. But there are some problems. As a soldier living in the barracks I have to place to safely store a race without paying money. Also, I suspect once spec'd out the cars aren't street legal? So I would have to buy a Truck and trailer (which I probably couldn't afford). How much would you say it costs to run a season?

Oh and another main concern, I live in El Paso TX. Have any races within, say, 8 hours of here?

Most of the 944 spec cars in San Diego are driven to the stadium for our autocrosses so they are at least nominally street legal. I think one of the beauties of the class is, as Tim pointed out, you can start racing with a work in progress, going further down that slippery slope as time and money permits.

Welcome Drew !?
Texas is the next stop on the 944-spec World tour ! 944-spec will be running this year at MSR Cresson, TWS , and Hallett and a few other places. We had a few racers drive their cars to the track this year so it can be done , but I would not want to go to far away like that... I would guess after one event, or even on this and the NASA message boards you could find someone to store the car for you closer to the tracks. We all are thankfull for those who serve BUT the Texas folks seem to really be nice about it. I was US Navy based in Corpus Christi.

Please stop by the NASA web forum and lets get you going.

Joe what are all of the costs to run a race winning 944-spec ?
