Wheel dilemma
Ok, so I have a set of phone dials on my 951 right now, but I also have a set of Fuch wheels laying around that need a lot of work done to them. Should I spend the time refinishing the Fuchs, or is there a really cool paint scheme that I can do on the phone dials? I love the look of the Fuchs, but if there is something I can do that will make the phone dials look better then I'll try it.
What do you guys think?

Fix the fuch's. It is not the hard. It will be very rewarding when look at them when your done knowing you did it yourself.
Besides they are great wheels.

My car is silver.
Yeah, I started sanding the wheels today, but the paint is so difficult to get off. Any tips or tutorials on refinishing Fuchs around here? I couldn't find any.

I've seen phone dials painted a few different ways... none of them look good. The ONLY way phone dials ever look good is on the early offset deep dish ones with a perfect finish. Then they look OK I guess.
Fuchs are classic, stylish, light, strong, and versatile with their looks. I think you should do the Fuchs! I scuff-sanded my fuchs and taped off the lip, then just sprayed with generic gloss-black paint. It came out pretty well, but I should have used better paint. Next, I will try polishing the lips.

I kinda disagree that phone dials NEVER look good...I think that the late offset 16" phone dials look pretty good in a clean silver with the colored center caps. In other words, I think my rims look ok haha
seriously though, if you have the choice, go for fuchs, but cleaned up phone dials don't look terrible. In my opinion, they're very "period correct" for these cars.
At the same time though, I must admit to being tempted to eventually replacing my phone dials with 993 rims or something like that. We'll see...

I like phone dials but honestly only in early offset. And I think they look best in white ala Turbo Cup cars (which we all know only had phone dials on the late offset versions but lets not split hairs here )
Of course my vote is for Fuchs. I assume you have the proper 951 fuchs for your car?
Don't care much for polished lips on the Fuchs, I think the factory satin look is the best. Satin black or gloss black centers would look great, and so would colour-matching the centers in body colour.
Cue the obligitory pic of my car with colour matched 951 and 930 Fuchs.
