Default Has anyone else developed a near pathological hatred for their sunroof?

Well in the course of trying to get the damn thing to work right I replaced one of the POS plastic gears, reset everything and then put the arms in and screwed the covers on. I only used two screws on each cover in case I had something out of alignment.

I retracted the arms, put the sunroof on and ran it up. At some point I heard a loud popping noise. Thinking I had just stripped one of the gears, I investigated to find both covers had broken...

Anybody got any extras?

I am ready to rip this whole mess out and bolt the damn thing in PLACE ! ! !

Problem is I like the sunroof when it works...

Is there a way to convert this damn thing to a manual operation?

yes. convert to manual.

I think Ian (944ONline?) will sell the complete conversion w/ used parts for $100.

No, I love mine but only because it works just enough for me to make me happy and I know if I hate it, it will break.

Mine will do enough to lock it down when it's on and let me unlock it to take it off..... no lifting or anything else though.

Although since my car does not know that RAIN or SNOW exist it's top is off 95% of the time.

Do the manual conversion. Why Porsche used so many moving parts and complexity to raise the roof 1-1/2" is beyond me. I've done 4 cars so far and it's great. The earlier cars had a different set-up for the gears and cables; they are the worst offenders.

I just fixed mine last week... Now I'm scared to shut it, I don't want it to break again.

PM me and I'll give you some info on the conversion, it takes about 30 minutes and a phillips screwdriver.

When you buy a 944 or 968 someone should show how to not break the sunroof. Mine worked great for a long time until something didn't line up right. There has to be a method.

I wish my car had sunroof delete. I never use it, and it just adds weight. And when I think about using it, I think about it breaking.

I used to use it a lot on my early 944. It's fun when it's off! I think the manual conversion is the best route to go, since it retains functionality and existence of a sunroof, and it bypasses the troublesome mechanisms.

No issues with mine. And I love the fact that it automatically clamps itself back down after the several times I've forgotten to secure it after putting it back into place.

No significant problems with my electric sunroof. What am I doing wrong?
