Oh, now you've gone and done it!~

I thought about converting my sunroof to manual (since everything else is now anyway in my car), but the problem is the Rennline roll bar would make it hard to raise and lower the manual roof while driving.

Hmmm... I'd have that same problem then...

While I don't hate mine, I do despise, loathe and abhor it. But no, not hate...

Kuhl 951, you have a PM.

never had many problems w/ them- mine was broken when i bought it- fixed it- now it works fine. It does creak alittle sometimes- i think i need a new seal or something. Fixed the one in my n/a w/ the two gears- tip- loosen the clutch a half turn or so- it'll keep from stripping the gears again.

Greg. I have always used Sid's old write-up with a few changes.

In your case with that beautiful interior you might consider buying a complete manual sunroof from an early guards red 83 944 or 924. That way the latches would lay down flatter unless you want to remove some of the fiberboard from your SR present liner.

All it takes is a set of latches and about 1/2 hour. If you pull all the guts it takes much longer.

Thanks all. I've replaced more gears than I can count. I've tried loosening the clutch, I even bought an in-lbs torque wrench to torque it correctly. The most recent indignity was the cable coiling itself up inside the wheel well.

Depending on how invasive the manual conversion is, I may got ahead and do that but leave the other bits in place until I find my happy sunroof place and have another go at it...

Update: Just found a set of manual latches on eBay and they now have a new owner

My sunroof just started making a farting noise when I close it too far. Does that mean my limit switch is bad??

"Happy sunroof place" hummmmmmmmm now that is an idea.

I have not cussed out loud at this car in recent memory. In fact not since the motor mount replacement, not even once during the turbo swap. This however had me going last night.

I will take another shot at here in a bit.

While I am looking for the manual latches I gotta do something to tie it down...

I am on my third 944, have fixed the roof on all of them. They are not hard
to fix correctly if you can read and follow the manual. And, loosen the clutch
to the point where it wiil just work.

farting sound = stripped gears.

I've replaced striped gears, and I need either to fix the limit switch or bend the 'finger' on the sunroof. Mine opens fine, but not far enough. If I push up on the limit switch, it opens all the way.

Frankly, I like it just because I'm a gadget guy. The car came that way and I want to keep mine bone stock as much as possible.
