1st off he is not lying about what the car is, he has the window sticker showing turbo s added as an option. so it is what it is. it is excactly what i described previously it is a turbo with the s package optioned on to it, the instrument cluster was not a turbo s exclusive part when it was the s packege was optioned on to it. this car is not one of the original turbo s's that was meant to be 1000 unit exclusive run. it is just a standard turbo with the s package option.
clear enough for you. people like to shoot other peoples rides down for fun, or to show their superior porsche knowledge. I just dont get it.

This sounds plausible. So, you're saying in 1988 if you didn't make the list to buy one of the "Turbo S" limited edition cars you could have the S package added on to your order for a regular 1988 220 HP 944 Turbo, including the 300 km/h speedo.

It is worth what someone is willing to pay, I would not buy it with out a thorough inspection on it 1st. Also if anyone was thinking of buying it at that price, 1 they would know what they are looking for, 2 they most likely wont try to profiteer of it , and want a good example of a truley great car. working in porsche service for 11 years, i have seen too many 944's that were not maintained properly, even club members!, everyone will freak out becuase the resvoir was changed? why is that your only way of identifying a good car?

That pretty much sums it up. when they opened the run up for options that is exactly what porsche did, made it an option, instead of a model like it was originally intended to be. then in 89 they dropped the s designation becuase all turbos were built to s specifications. technically there is no such thing as a 89 turbo s.

Wow, you guys are awesome. I'll have to have everyone critique my next 951 purchase to make sure it's perfect :-)

If anyone outside of SoCal is interested in making an offer, let me know. I live 1/4 mile from there (awesome sushi restaurant next door!) and would be happy to go take some more photos or ask the dealer questions. They have a large selection of 20-30 or so Porsches of all types, including a few race ready GTs. I've seen that car in there for awhile now, but I don't think they turn over cars very quickly...

the ad on ebay says that is one of a low number of cars and a rare car, when its just a normal 944 turbo and it looks like it has a repaint and has been restored and fixed up, I could have taken my $500 944na and had the turbo and the s option added to it as well.

it's clearly been restored, who knows if the vin on the paper matches the vin on the car, or if the paper is a fake? it looks easy to print up that paper in an old dot matrix printer. i know of people who have gone to great lengths to fake paper work in order to get things.

I say this because of the rust on the screw, the carpet, the bad paint job, and thats only after looking at a couple pics, if I looked at more then I could find more reasons why this is a fake, but I could be wrong, I guess you just have to buy it and it is certainly suspect.

here is what the carfax says:

1988 PORSCHE 944
WP0AA2956JN151571
COUPE
2.5L L4 FI SOHC / REAR WHEEL DRIVE

Manufacturer Recall Check
At least 1 manufacturer recall requires repair. Most recalls can be repaired free of charge.

Carfax has no mileage reports at all on this car. No entries prior to 2006........

The raised blocks on the coolant tank is a provision for 968 fenders, i.e. those should not appear on any original tank made before 1992.

I wondered what those blocks were for on the replacement coolant tank... When I said there should be no shortage of documentation, I didn't mean it necessarily had a lot of repairs (with 9,200 miles, one would hope not). On the other hand, one might expect to see records of one oil change & filter per year, a timing/BS belt change, among a few other plastic and rubber things that would age unless kept in an inert atmosphere...

You guys are bitching about one rusty screw in the interior??? You don't think it could just have randomly oxidized...?

sounds like a plan, get an old 951 for $3k, pay someone $5k to restore it then fake a porsche sticker, that would probably look older by now, then get an old blaupunkt radio (why would porsche give them the blaupunkt radio booklet?) and sell it on ebay for $15k as a real 944Turbo S. good plan? would it work?

not just that, the carpet, the paint, the tank, no foam in the hood... prob lots more if you want to check, we found that out by just looking quickly.

It says right in the description that it is a 944 Turbo with the "Turbo S" "Option".

It also has an optional radio, which means the dash was probably opened up? It may also just be an illusion that the screws have rust on them.

The paint in the rear, looks fine.

The coolant tank could have been replaced by a dealer for any reason unknown to us... Who knows.. Maybe it's original, maybe dealer modified.

The rust in the exhaust is probably from sitting and only starting the car up to idle and putt around.

The floor mats can be original from the dealer--not the factory.

I think you guys want to believe this car is not original, and thus find things that you think are wrong.
