Default 944 fiberglass sunroof replacement pannel?

looking for a pannel to replace the standard factory 944 s2 sunroof.
Wanting this pannel to be light! the car is only used in club competition and car has certain restictions and requirements.
and with 35kgs (77lbs) to remove i figure this is the best place to begin at the top of the car.

You might consider the hood next that is another big chunk of weight that is "on top."

Isn't the original sunroof FG? I would think if you are going for weight savings you can remove the section of headliner on the sunroof and some non-essential hardware. But would be surprised if you find a much lighter panel....

Ya know, I have one that is stripped out except for the mounting stuff. I will dig it out this evening and weigh it. I think the GT racing claim is that theirs is only a couple of LBs. This thing seems quite a bit heavier than that.

The standard roof is aluminum. It probably weighs about 20 pounds with everything on it.

WRONG. It is fiberglass.

I have a stripped out sunroof panel for my car for events. Not only is it slightly lighter without the interior panel, it gives extra headroom for the helmt. I sprayed the bare underside in a satin black so it doesn't stand out too bad inside of the car. The extra bonus is that I don't have to worry about it in the pits if I remove it and someone happens to knock it over or step on it.

After inspecting the many chips in the paint it sure as hell looks like aluminum.

The feel of the roof isn't like fiberglass, it feels too solid for that.

Unless your car is special, it is not aluminum. I'll bet you $5.

Pull off your interior trim panel and look at the backside of the sunroof panel where it is not painted. Tell me what it looks like.

I've stripped my sunroof down and I'm sure mine is aluminium (it's cold to the touch and chipped off paint shows what appears to be metal underneath). It's heavy so I'm going to replace it with a carbon fibre panel when the car is resprayed over the winter.

My theory is there are two different sunroof panels (a metal one and a plastic one), with metal being on the later cars, but I have no actual evidence to support this at the moment.

Sunroof in my 968 is aluminum and weighs 22 lbs, one of the reasons it usually stays in the garage
